National Day Flag-Raising Ceremony Fosters a Stronger Sense of National Identity and Belonging

PolyU held a flag-raising ceremony on campus on 1 October 2026 to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China.   The ceremony brought together over 700 guests, staff, students and alumni to extend their best wishes for the prosperity of the Nation and the long-term stability and development of Hong Kong. The ceremony was conducted by the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team, with the support of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison.   In preparation for the ceremony, members of the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team devoted significant time and effort to intensive training and rehearsals, demonstrating remarkable dedication, discipline and teamwork. Their professionalism and commitment ensured the solemn and dignified conduct of the ceremony, while fostering a stronger sense of national identity and belonging among the participants.   PolyU is grateful to the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison for its support and guidance in training the student flag-raisers, which contributed significantly to the success of the ceremony.  

PLA Hong Kong Garrison Returns to PolyU to Strengthen Training for Student Flag-Raising Team

On 29 September 2026, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison (PLA Hong Kong Garrison) returned to PolyU to conduct a training session for the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team in preparation for the National Day Flag-Raising Ceremony on 1 October. Building on the foundation established through previous training, the session focused on strengthening students’ mastery of flag-raising procedures, marching techniques, formations and ceremonial protocol.   Throughout the training, members of the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team demonstrated strong commitment and discipline, devoting themselves to refining every movement and detail. Under the professional guidance of the PLA Hong Kong Garrison, students practised extensively to enhance their coordination, precision and overall ceremonial performance, ensuring that the upcoming ceremony would be conducted with dignity and professionalism.   The training provided a valuable opportunity for students to consolidate their skills through hands-on practice and constructive feedback. By repeatedly rehearsing key procedures and movements, team members further improved their confidence, teamwork and readiness for the National Day ceremony.   PolyU extends its sincere gratitude to the PLA Hong Kong Garrison for its continued support and guidance in nurturing the development of the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team. The training not only enhanced students’ ceremonial skills but also reinforced their sense of responsibility, discipline and commitment to upholding the dignity of the national flag.   For many team members, the opportunity to receive professional instruction from the PLA Hong Kong Garrison for a second time was both meaningful and inspiring. Their dedication and perseverance throughout the training reflected the team’s unwavering commitment to excellence and their readiness to serve as ambassadors of national pride on campus.  

Government Career Fair 2026

In collaboration with the Civil Service Bureau of the HKSAR Government, the "Government Career Fair 2026" was successfully held on 23 September at PolyU. The Fair featured the participation of 30+ government bureaux and departments, showcasing over 50 civil service grades. The event provided PolyU students with an invaluable opportunity to explore potential career pathways within the HKSAR Government and public service. We were honoured to welcome Mr Cyrus CHEUNG, Principal Assistant Secretary for the Civil Service (Appointments), and Prof Horace MUI, Dean of Students, who visited the booths and engaged with both students and representatives from participating government bureaux and departments. In addition, several bureaux and departments conducted career talks and written tests, providing students with detailed information on civil service roles and recruitment arrangements. Students were empowered to broaden their understanding of civil service and envision their future careers in public service. We would like to thank all guests, participating bureaux and departments, and students for your support of the event. PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team Joins “Salute to the National Flag” Beijing Delegation and Deepens National Identity

Ten members of the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team, led by Prof. Geoffrey Shen, Associate Vice President (Global Partnerships), and Prof. Horace Mui, Dean of Students, participated in the “Salute to the National Flag” Hong Kong and Macao Youth Flag-Raising Teams’ Beijing Visit Delegation from 18 to 22 September. Through a rich programme of exchanges, visits and experiential learning activities, students gained a deeper understanding of the nation’s history, culture and development, while further strengthening their national identity, sense of belonging and commitment to serving as ambassadors of the national flag on campus. A key milestone of the visit was the delegation’s reception at the Great Hall of the People, where members were received by Mr Ding Xuexiang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, and Mr Xia Baolong, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council. The occasion underscored the nation’s care and expectations for the younger generation and encouraged students to contribute actively to the development of Hong Kong and the country. Students also attended the national flag-raising ceremony at Tiananmen Square. Witnessing the solemn ceremony in person enabled them to appreciate more profoundly the significance of the national flag as a symbol of national sovereignty, unity and dignity. The experience inspired students to reflect on the responsibilities they shoulder as members of the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team and strengthened their pride in the nation. Another highlight was the exchange with the People’s Liberation Army Ceremonial Escort Battalion. Through close observation of the guards’ impeccable discipline, precision and professionalism, students gained valuable insights into the rigorous training and unwavering dedication behind every national flag-raising ceremony. The experience reinforced the values of discipline, perseverance and excellence, motivating students to raise their own standards in training and ceremonial duties. The delegation also visited the National Museum of China and the Palace Museum, where students explored the breadth of Chinese civilisation and gained a deeper appreciation of the country’s rich cultural heritage and historical development. These visits enabled them to better understand China’s journey from its historical foundations to its modern achievements. Visits to Peking University and Tsinghua University provided valuable opportunities for exchanges with Mainland students. Through discussions on academic pursuits, campus life and aspirations for the future, students broadened their horizons and developed a stronger appreciation of the important role young people can play in the country’s development. Reflecting on the visit, participants shared that the delegation offered a meaningful opportunity to deepen their understanding of China’s development and achievements. More importantly, it strengthened their sense of national identity and pride, while inspiring them to continue promoting respect for the national flag and patriotism within the University community. As members of the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team, they are committed to carrying forward the values and lessons gained from the visit and contributing to the cultivation of patriotism and national education on campus.  

PolyU Annual Talent Show 2026 Highlights

Students from the PolyU Special Talents Admission and Recognition Scheme (STARS) Residential College and Red Student Halls of Residence (Homantin) came together on 17 September 2026 to present a truly spectacular feast for the eyes and ears! On stage, our students gave it their all: from dynamic pop band performances and K-pop dance routines to elegant piano and violin solos, right through to vibrant traditional performances by our international students. Every single act was absolutely mesmerising, perfectly showcasing the boundless talent and youthful vigour of PolyU students! The performances completely lit up the stage, with enthusiastic cheers from the crowd taking the atmosphere to a whole new level. Everyone came together to create a truly unforgettable evening filled with passion and joy.

Campus Life Festival 2026 - A Galaxy of New Beginnings

On 3-4 and 7-8 September, the Shaw Sports Complex was transformed into a vibrant galaxy of opportunities as students came together to explore boundless possibilities!  For the four exciting days, nearly 16,000 PolyU students joined various SAO student organisations through the Campus Life Festival 2026, making it one of the most energetic kick-offs starts to the academic year!   Organised by the Student Affairs Office (SAO) together with nearly 50 affiliated interest clubs and non-local student associations, the Festival showcased a universe of student life experiences. From arts and culture to sports, recreation and music, every booth offered new opportunities to discover passions, build peer network and embark on new adventures.   A heartfelt thank you to Prof. Ben Young, Vice President (Student and Global Affairs), and Prof. Horace Mui, Dean of Students, who joined the Festival and actively engaged with club booth organisers. Touring the vibrant stalls, they shared the students' enthusiasm and excitement as clubs recruited new members to kick off an inspiring new academic year!.   SAO will continue to walk alongside all members on their journey of exploration and growth. Let’s keep discovering new possibilities and shining among the stars together!

Orientation Showcase Attracts over 3,400 Freshmen to Explore Campus Life

Following the President's Welcome on 28 August 2026, the Orientation Showcase held on 1 September 2026 at the Shaw Sports Complex infused the start of the new academic year with incredible energy. Hosting 47 booths organised by various administrative units and student groups, the event welcomed over 3,400 new students. The showcase provided a comprehensive overview of the University's essential support services and vibrant extracurricular life. By exploring campus resources and connecting with staff and senior students, our freshmen are now well-prepared to embark on their university journey. We were delighted to have Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, President of PolyU, Prof. Ben Young, Vice President (Student and Global Affairs), Prof. Horace Mui, Dean of Students, together with the management team of the Student Affairs Office, visited the booths and interacted warmly with students and booth organisers. They encouraged our new students to make the most of every enriching opportunity at PolyU and embrace a truly fulfilling university experience. Once again, a huge welcome to all new students! PolyU Promotes Women’s Water Polo Again at the 3rd Inter-Collegiate Mixed Gender Water Polo Invitational Tournament

Organised by the Student Affairs Office and sponsored by the Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund, PolyU once again promoted women’s water polo at The 3rd Inter-Collegiate Mixed Gender Water Polo Invitational Tournament on 23 August 2026.  The tournament was played in the format of Water Polo 4x4. PolyU was proud to introduce the Secondary School Girls’ Team category for the first time, featuring 4 secondary school women’s water polo teams competing for the Champion. Meanwhile, PolyU and 6 other local universities had sent mixed gender teams to compete in the University Mixed Gender Teams category. 11 PolyU Students Recognised under SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation x PolyU Building Homes with Heart Scholarship Programme

11 outstanding PolyU students from real estate, surveying and civil engineering disciplines were recognised under the SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation x PolyU Building Homes with Heart Scholarship Programme in the 2025/26 academic year.   Established in 2022, the programme supports exceptional students facing financial challenges and nurtures future talent for Hong Kong’s construction and property sectors. Over the past four years, 42 PolyU students have received scholarships totalling approximately HK$1.5 million. Many awardees have already begun contributing to the industry, including some who have joined the Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) and its construction arm, Sanfield (Management) Limited (Sanfield).   This year’s awardees were commended not only for their academic potential, but also for their commitment to professional development and sustainable urban growth. Before the ceremony, the scholarship awardees and Sanfield trainees visited International Gateway Centre (IGC), SHKP’s flagship commercial development above the West Kowloon High Speed Rail Terminus, where they gained first-hand insights into green building design, smart technologies and sustainability practices.   The ceremony also highlighted the strong collaboration between SHKP and PolyU in advancing smart and sustainable construction. PolyU Student Orientation 2026 Commences with over 2,500 Freshmen Attending President’s Welcome

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) Student Orientation 2026 kicked off on campus on 28 August 2026, with over 2,500 freshmen attending the President’s Welcome at the Jockey Club Auditorium. Prof. Jin-Guang TENG, President of PolyU, alongside the University’s senior management team, welcomed the freshmen to the PolyU family. He introduced the University’s rich history and vision, highlighting its mission to nurture socially responsible professionals and leaders with a strong sense of national pride and a global perspective.   Prof. Jin-Guang Teng remarked, “As an innovative, world-class university, PolyU pursues excellence in education, research and knowledge transfer for the benefit of Hong Kong, the Nation and the world. We aspire for our graduates to become leaders in innovation, while our research delivers innovation with direct societal benefits, ensuring that the spirit of innovation is embodied in all our endeavours. As we prepare to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the University next year, we warmly invite everyone to stay tuned for our upcoming activities and join us in celebrating this significant milestone.”   The President’s Welcome featured a rich programme, highlighted by a sharing session from Ms CHEN Rui, PolyU alumna and Founder cum Chief Executive Officer of BOTINKIT. Ms Chen, who was listed in Fortune Top 40 Under 40 Business Elites in China 2025, shared her entrepreneurial journey and career development in the field of artificial intelligence, encouraging freshmen to pursue their aspirations courageously. Student representatives then introduced their new peers to campus life, as well as to the University’s diverse learning and holistic development opportunities. In closing, students and the PolyU Choir took to the stage, showcasing the talent of PolyU students and the artistic vibrancy of the campus.   Organised by the Student Affairs Office, the event brought together new students at the main venue as well as via live broadcasts at the Wong Man and Tang Kit Wah Global Student Hub, and various other locations across campus, marking the beginning of their university journey.   Furthermore, “PolyU Orientation 2026” will feature an Orientation Showcase and Annual Talent Show in September to further help freshmen settle into university life. The Orientation Showcase will be held on 1 September at the Shaw Sports Complex, where over 45 booths hosted by various University units and student organisations will introduce freshmen to a wide range of co-curricular activities and campus support services. The Showcase will also offer students the opportunity to interact with staff and senior peers, helping them gain a better understanding of the University’s holistic development programmes and discover opportunities for them to realise their personal and professional potential.   The Annual Talent Show will take place on 17 September, featuring a range of captivating performances by students from the PolyU STARS Residential College.
