PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team: Fostering National Pride Through Engagement and Activities

The PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team was established in January 2023, making us the first university to set up such a team. Its purpose is to foster student engagement with and understanding of our Motherland, thereby cultivating a stronger sense of national identity. Since its inception, the Team has trained approximately 100 undergraduate and postgraduate students, who are responsible for flag-raising ceremonies on important days, such as National Day, the anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the anniversary of the founding of PolyU and New Year’s Day.

The Team has organised and participated in a variety of engaging activities, including a Guizhou National Education Exchange Tour, a flag-raising delegation tour to Beijing, a national flag-raising competition and exchanges with the Guangdong National Flag-Raising Team. Team members have also visited the National Security Exhibition Hall, participated in a military summer camp and attended an awards presentation and appreciation luncheon. Additionally, the Team has set up a promotional booth at the Orientation Showcase to introduce themselves to incoming students.

These initiatives have successfully strengthened the team members’ sense of belonging and encouraged greater participation in flag-raising ceremonies, reinforcing their commitment to national pride and responsibility.
