7 Students Recognised at “80th Anniversary of the Victory of the War of Resistance” Essay & Photography Competition

The Award Ceremony of the “80th Anniversary of the Victory of the War of Resistance” Essay and Photography Competition was successfully held on 14 August 2025. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Professor Cao Jiannong, Acting Vice President (Education), and Dr Laura LO, Associate Vice President (Institutional Advancement), who attended to celebrate the outstanding achievements of the awardees.  We are proud to share that 7 PolyU students received awards in this meaningful competition, with one student achieving distinctions in both categories. They are: Essay Category Champion – Miss FENG Jiayuan Second Runner-up – Mr WANG Yanchao Merit Prize – Miss SU Zeyu Merit Prize – Miss CAO Mengying Merit Prize – Miss ZOU Xinyuan Merit Prize – Mr YIP Kam Shing Merit Prize – Miss WANG Yitong  Photography Category Merit Prize – Mr WANG Yanchao The competition aimed to engage students across Hong Kong in reflecting on historical events, the spirit of resistance, and the importance of peace through essay and photography submissions. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all awardees for their meaningful and inspiring contributions.

Welcome Tea Reception cum Thematic Talk for 2025/26 Ex-Com of Affiliated Student Organisations

SAO hosted the Welcome Tea Reception for the 2025/26 Executive Committees of faculty/school/departmental associations and interest clubs on 4 August 2025. Around 100 student leaders of over 50 affiliated student organisations fostered connections among each other, strengthening their network to support future initiatives and collaborative events.   The annual event was a resounding success, emphasising its crucial role in nurturing PolyU student leaders to show their commitment be law-abiding organisations. The event kicked off with a video premiere of ‘A Transformative Journey of PolyU Student Organisations’, showcasing the learning journey of how past Ex-Com members emerged to be socially responsible student leaders with national and global perspectives, setting the stage for the occasion. This was followed by a warm motivating speech from Interim Dean of Students Ir Prof. Horace Mui, who guided the leaders as they prepare to organise Orientation activities to welcome new freshmen and enrich their campus life.   The most impactful highlights of the event featured a session on the Basic Law and National Security Legislation delivered by the Hong Kong Basic Law Foundation, and an interactive anti-corruption presentation by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC). All student leaders had deepened their understanding of legal and ethical responsibilities. Student organisations’ leaders are encouraged to stay tuned with upcoming thematic talk series throughout their term of office.   We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Photographic Society for their invaluable assistance in capturing all the memorable moments.  

Discovering National Development Through Sport: A Journey in Chengdu

From 10th to 16th July 2025, six students from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, including three members of the university’s badminton team, embarked on an exciting adventure at the Fourth “Panda Cup” Youth Badminton Championships and Summer Camp in Chengdu, China. Organised by the Minister of the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technology Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Chinese Badminton Association, this vibrant event brought together 14 teams from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and Sichuan. These budding athletes showcased their skills on the court, fostering camaraderie and healthy competition. After the matches, PolyU student KONG Siu Hin spoke on behalf of Hong Kong’s youth, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the organisers for creating a valuable platform that allowed students from diverse regions to connect and forge friendships through their shared passion for badminton. Following the competition, the summer camp unfolded with enriching excursions, including visits to the Sanxingdui Museum, the “Two Bombs, One Satellite” Memorial Museum, the Civil Aviation Flight University of China, and the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. These experiences opened the students’ eyes to China’s ancient history and modern advancements, deepening their appreciation of national development. Through sport and cultural exploration, the PolyU students not only honed their badminton skills but also solidified their sense of identity and belonging to our Motherland. Their journey in Chengdu was not merely about competition; it was a vibrant celebration of youth, unity, and a shared vision for the future.

Four students awarded Innovation and Technology Scholarship 2025

Four PolyU students have been awarded the Innovation and Technology Scholarship 2025, jointly sponsored by HSBC and the Innovation and Technology Commission. They are: Miss CHAN Wing Ching   BA (Hons) Scheme in Fashion Mr CHIK Long Tin  BEng in Aviation Engineering Miss LEUNG Tze Ying  BA (Hons) in English and Applied Linguistics Mr YAU Hayden  BBA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance The Scholarships offer the outstanding local undergraduates the opportunity to widen their international/Mainland exposure, gain industry experience, and nurture their passion and commitment for science and technology. It is hoped that the awardees can pursue their dreams with their innovative ideas and help create positive changes to society. Each awardee can receive up to HK$150,000 to participate in a series of PolyU initiatives, including the Overseas/ Mainland Attachment Programme, Mentorship Programme, Local Internship Programme and Service Project Programme. PolyU holds flag-raising ceremony to celebrate 28th anniversary of establishment of the HKSAR

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) today held a flag-raising ceremony on campus to celebrate the 28th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).   The University is honoured to have had Mr HUANG Jingrui, Spokesperson and Director-General of the Department of Media and Public Relations of the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR; Mr LAI Jianhua, Deputy Director General of the Kowloon Sub-office of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR (LOCPG); and Mr ZHANG Guolai, Second-level Inspector of the Youth Department of LOCPG officiate at the ceremony. They were joined by PolyU Council Chairman Dr LAM Tai-fai; President Prof. Jin-Guang TENG; Deputy Council Chairman Dr Daniel YIP Chung-yin; Treasurer of the University Mr Arthur LEE Kin; Honorary Court Chairman Dr Roy CHUNG Chi-ping; and President Emeritus Prof. the Honourable POON Chung-kwong, together with Council and Court members, other University senior management, University Fellows, Outstanding Alumni, members of the PolyU Foundation, and over 700 distinguished guests, staff, students and alumni, wishing prosperity and stability for the Nation and Hong Kong. The ceremony was performed by the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team.   Dr Lam Tai-fai said, “In the 28 years since Hong Kong returned to the Motherland, the City has fully leveraged its distinctive advantages of enjoying the strong support of the Nation and being closely connected to the world. It has actively integrated into the overall national development and contributed to the Nation’s high-quality development. Five years after the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, the City has transitioned from chaos to order, leaving behind turmoil and returning to stability and harmony. With public order restored, Hong Kong is now advancing from stability to prosperity.   As a member of Hong Kong’s higher education sector, PolyU is committed to serving the Nation’s needs with its own strengths, nurturing professionals and social leaders with a strong sense of national pride and a global perspective, and supporting Hong Kong’s development into an international innovation and technology centre and international hub for post-secondary education.”   Prof. Jin-Guang Teng remarked, “This year marks the 28th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR. Under the principle of ‘one country, two systems’, Hong Kong has received staunch support from the Nation and has capitalised on its unique advantage while reinforcing its connectivity with both the Mainland and the world, maintaining long-term prosperity and stability for society. PolyU Students Shine at the 10th “Friends of Diplomacy” Summer Camp

Three students from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) recently participated in the 10th “Friends of Diplomacy” Summer Camp, held from June 1 to 9, 2025. Organised by the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong and hosted by the Hong Kong Youth & Tertiary Students Association, the camp aimed to enhance students’ understanding of international diplomacy. Lau Yat Nam from the Department of Applied Social Sciences, Chan Tsz Tung from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Law Chun Kit from the School of Accounting and Finance were selected to join 30 peers from various institutions. Their nine-day journey took them to Beijing and Indonesia, immersing them in rich cultural and diplomatic experiences. In Beijing, the PolyU students attended a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and visited the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the CPC Central Committee, gaining valuable insights into China’s diplomatic framework. In Indonesia, they rode the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, visited the ASEAN Secretariat, and explored Tencent’s headquarters, learning about the intersection of technology and diplomacy while engaging with local university students. On June 11, Professor James Dai, Associate Dean of Students, attended the summary sharing session hosted by the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong. He listened to the students’ reflections on their enriching experience, highlighting the importance of such opportunities in broadening their international perspectives and fostering lasting connections across Asia.    

PolyU Students at the Flag-Raising Delegation in Beijing

The inaugural tour for flag-raising delegations from universities in Hong Kong took place from June 16 to 20, 2025. Organised by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association and supported by the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of CPC Central Committee, the event featured flag-raising team representatives from eight universities in Hong Kong, with the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team making a remarkable participation.  A highlight of the tour was witnessing the National Flag-Raising Ceremony at Tiananmen Square, complemented by an insightful visit to the Tiananmen Square National Flag Guard. Participants observed the ceremonial routines, feeling the solemn atmosphere that left a profound impression on them. This experience deepened their understanding of the significance of safeguarding the national flag, enhancing their sense of national identity and belonging. During their visit to Beijing Language and Culture University, PolyU students engaged in exchanges with the local flag-raising team, observing their drills. The precision and discipline exhibited by their peers inspired the PolyU students, fostering a spirit of teamwork and responsibility. The tour also included visits to historical sites such as the Chinese Communist Party History Museum, the Military Museum of the Chinese People’s Revolution, the Chinese Traditional Culture Museum, the Great Wall at Juyongguan, and the Forbidden City. These enriching experiences broadened students’ horizons and deepened their appreciation for Chinese culture, igniting a passion for historical exploration and traditional values. Through this profound and emotionally resonant journey, PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team members expressed their commitment to contributing to the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, vowing to transform their patriotism into action for the future of their Motherland.        

2024/25 ICAC Ambassador Programme – Closing Ceremony

On 19 June 2025, the ICAC Ambassador Programme for the 2024/25 academic year officially came to a close with a memorable Closing Ceremony held at the ICAC Headquarters. This year, 19 tertiary institutions across Hong Kong participated in the programme, including The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Mr Diman Mak, Director of Community Relations, presented certificates to the ICAC Ambassadors and their buddies. Representatives from the Student Affairs Office also attended the event to witness and appreciate their contributions and accomplishments. The highlight of the ceremony was a showcase where ambassadors from different tertiary institutions re-created their signature campus activities. PolyU proudly brought back the Instant Photo Booth — a creative and engaging way to raise awareness about probity. Ambassadors were invited to visit the ICAC Exhibition Hall, enjoy a cup of coffee at Café “1974”, and appreciate the current art exhibition. It was a meaningful end to a fruitful journey.  We extend our heartfelt thanks to the ICAC for their continued support and to all ambassadors for their enthusiasm and dedication. PolyU Student Wins the Most Impactful Project Award at the JCSCCP Sustainability Leadership Programme

We are pleased to announce that the student-led project, UPonCYCLE, has won the Most Impactful Project award in the Upcycling category of the Jockey Club Sustainable Campus Consumer Programme (JCSCCP) Sustainability Leadership Programme on 29 May 2025. This project, led by a team of eight dedicated PolyU student leaders, aimed to promote sustainable clothing consumption within the PolyU community. In collaboration with the Campus Facilities and Sustainability Office, UPonCYCLE delivered two upcycling workshops and hosted a booth at the Zero Waste Living Fair. Their initiatives successfully engaged over 200 participants, diverted 11 kilograms of clothing from landfills, and inspired an impressive 98% of workshop participants to adopt sustainable living practices.  The project aims to debunk sustainability myths in the fashion industry and cultivate a mindset of responsible consumption within the PolyU community by promoting alternative sustainable choices and introducing innovative upcycling practices.  We congratulate the UPonCYCLE team on this remarkable achievement and their commitment to sustainability and responsible consumption within the PolyU community.

PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team Commemorates the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the War of Resistance

This year marks the 80th anniversary of victory in the War of Resistance, a significant milestone in our history. On 25 May 2025, the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team gathered at the Cenotaph for Martyrs in Wu Kau Tang to pay tribute to the courageous revolutionaries who sacrificed their lives during this pivotal time. This commemorative event provided PolyU students with a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of history and reflect on the sacrifices made for our freedom. As team members poignantly stated, “Without the sacrifices of our heroes, we would not enjoy the peaceful lives we have today. History must not be forgotten.” Such reflections emphasise the importance of remembering those who fought valiantly for our peace. By participating in this event, students not only honoured the heroic deeds of those who stood against oppression but also cultivated a sense of unity and resilience. Engaging with our history fosters a profound appreciation for peace and strengthens students’ national identities, sense of belonging, and patriotism.
