Scholarships for Overseas Studies

To encourage students to travel to renowned universities in the Chinese Mainland and other countries around the world for the 2027/28 academic year, the HSBC Global Scholarship Programme has two streams of applications — Chinese Mainland and Global — to better align with requirements needed for youths to study at institutions across the globe.

Scholarship Values:

Global Stream: capped at HKD300,000 per awardee or the total cost of the overseas study, whichever is lower

Chinese Mainland Stream: HKD25,000 per awardee

Eligibility:

LOCAL full-time non-final-year students pursuing undergraduate degree programme who meet the following requirements:

Hong Kong Permanent residents with the right of abode in Hong Kong;
To spend one semester or one academic year (i.e. semester 1 and/or 2) for credit-bearing studies at a renowned university in Chinese Mainland or other countries around the world in the 2027/28 academic year;
Have consistent outstanding academic performance with at least a cumulative GPA 3.70 or being top 3% of the programme pursuing by the end of Semester 1 of 2026/27;
Applicants applying to the Global Stream are required to have a minimum total TOEFL score of 90 (internet-based test) with scores for individual sections not lower than 22 on listening, 17 on writing, 21 on reading, and 21 on speaking; or a minimum IELTS overal band score of 6.5, with no components below 6.0; and
Demonstrating strong financial needs and a well-rounded profile, showcasing involvement in extra-curricular and community activities.
