Presidential Student Leadership Award Presentation Ceremony 2022

The Presidential Student Leadership Award is a new initiative in this academic year to recognise our student leaders and encourage them in developing their potential fully. The Presentation Ceremony was held on 20 March 2023 in Chiang Chen Studio Theatre. Our President, Professor Jin-Guang TENG presented the Awards to 27 awardees and among them, NG Ka Ho, from the Department of Applied Mathematics, Faculty of Science, was selected to receive the President’s Distinguished Student Leadership Award of this year.

PolyU Rugby and Fencing teams achieved outstanding results at the Inter-collegiate Rugby and Inter-collegiate Fencing Competitions

More good news! The PolyU Rugby and Fencing teams achieved outstanding results at the Inter-collegiate Rugby and Inter-collegiate Fencing Competitions, organised by The University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China. The teams took home the 1st runner-up prize in the Men's Rugby Sevens and ranked 5th in the Women's Rugby. In the fencing competitions, PolyU Men’s and Women’s Fencing teams both won a 1st runner-up place and together captured the Overall Team Championship. Congratulations to all the PolyU student-athletes!

PolyU teams won a total of seven awards at the Hong Kong Techathon 2023

Congrats to the PolyU teams on winning a total of seven awards at the Hong Kong Techathon 2023, including three as Champions, one 1st Runner-up, two 2nd Runner-up and one Best Presentation Award. PolyU teams were champions in three of the four categories in the competition, outshining 60 other excellent teams! The champion teams were “417Tech” in the ArtTech & EdTech category, “Fleming MedLab” in the Healthcare & GeronTech category and “Boost Riders” in the Smart Cities & Sustainability category. Hong Kong Techathon 2023 is a competition jointly organised by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and nine local universities. It aims to promote the development of a Hong Kong innovation and technology start-up ecosystem, providing young people with diversified learning opportunities and entrepreneurial support. Anti-scam Seminar for Mainland Students in Hong Kong

With deceptive organisations and fraudulent schemes on the rise and an increase in the number of cases targeting Mainland university students studying in Hong Kong, the Police Anti-Deception Coordination Centre (ADCC), the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR (LOCPG) and PolyU held a “Beware of Scams! Join Us to Combat Deceptions” seminar at the Jockey Club Auditorium of PolyU to strengthen students’ awareness in this regard.  The seminar was attended by Mr Siu Chak-yee, the Commissioner of Police; Mr Chen Feng, the Director-General of the Police Liaison Department of the LOCPG ; Mr Wang Weiming, the Director-General of Education, Science and Technology Department of LOCPG; and Professor Jin-Guang Teng, PolyU President. During the seminar, the attendees were given prevention advice on various fraud techniques, such as telephone deception tricks, defrauding schemes, employment fraud ploys, naked chat scams and money laundering traps. After the seminar, information booths were set up by ADCC, the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau, the Financial Intelligence and Investigation Bureau (FIIB), the Public Relations Wing and Regional Crime Prevention Units to provide a face-to-face consultation service and distribute anti-deception publicity materials. Around 1,000 Mainland students from 14 tertiary institutions attending the seminar would be appointed as 'Anti-Scam Ambassadors' to assist the Police in disseminating anti-deception messages to their schoolmates and friends. PolyU student-athlete Miss Wai Sze Wing took a silver medal at the Asian Junior Team Championships

Good news! PolyU student-athlete Wai Sze Wing participated as a member of the Hong Kong Girls’ Squash Team at the 21st Asian Junior Team Championships held in Chennai, India. Her team won a silver medal in the Girls’ Team event. Congrats to Sze Wing! We wish her continued success in her upcoming competitions, bringing glory to the University and Hong Kong!

PolyU's Got Talent Valentine's Gathering

PolyU’s Got Talent (PGT) held its first-ever face-to-face PGT Valentine’s Gathering on 13 February night. With nearly 100 participants and star-studded multicultural performances, talented students gathered and showcased their talents live on stage. They also auditioned for the Podium Showcase in March and future performing opportunities. With a chill and fun ambience, our students shared their passion, exchanged their talent altogether. The gathering enriched intercultural development and fostered friendship as the participants integrated and collaborated with international friends from Germany, India, Indonesia, Korea and other corners of the world. PolyU’s Got Talent offers unparalleled opportunities for encouraging student inclusion and strengthening multi-cultural exchange  . This campus-wide programme promotes connection among peers via Arts, Culture and Talents for Sharing (A.C.Ts). PolyU’s Got Talent is featured by a lively and dynamic series of campus busking and signature performances at institutional events. Limitless Festival 2023

The Kick-off ceremony of the “Limitless Festival 2023” was successfully held on 2 February 2023 (Thursday) at Global Student Hub. The ceremony was officiated by Prof. Ben Young, Vice President (Student and Global Affairs), who delivered a welcome address, and followed by Dr Gary Ng Ka Wing, Chairperson of The Hong Kong Federation of Handicapped Youth, who shared his inspiring story of rehabilitation and promoted inclusion of people with disability. More than 120 participants from our PolyU students, staff, representatives from exhibition booths and guests from sister universities have joined the ceremony and enjoyed inclusion music performances by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Student Affairs Office Philharmonic Orchestra, members of PolyU’s Got Talent, Hall Choir and student with special education needs (SEN). Moreover, our “Limitless” ambassadors also shared with us their goals and plan to enhance inclusion and disability awareness on campus. Mr Will Ho, a year 4 student with SEN shared about how he copes with challenges during his University life. “Limitless Festival” is one of our initiatives to encourage the integration of students with SEN into campus life. Come and Join us in the Limitless Festival from 2 February to 6 March 2023, a series of activities will be conducted to foster a better understanding of the challenges faced by persons with disabilities as well as students with SEN.

"INSPIRE" Mentorship Programme Annual Gathering 2022

The Annual Gathering of “INSPIRE” Mentorship Programme was successfully held on 6 January 2023 at Hotel ICON, bringing over 250 mentors and mentees to celebrate their invaluable mentoring journeys. President Teng delivered a warm welcome address and celebration toast with PolyU’s Central Management Team and Court and Council members to kickstart the event. Mr Vincent Tam, Head of Talent Management of the Hong Kong Productivity Council and Mr Vincent Wu, People Partner – Hong Kong, Macau & Indonesia of Marsh, also shared their insights into “Future Talent Trends” with the “INSPIRE” community, echoing the theme of the Gathering, “Celebration for Futurists”.

PolyU 85th Anniversary Public Lecture Series - Splashing for Lights Chasing our Dreams

To mark the 85th anniversary of PolyU, the third talk of the “PolyU 85th Anniversary Public Lecture Series: Together We Dream, We Fly” was successfully held on 22 November 2022 at the Jockey Club Auditorium. Ms GUO Jingjing, the Olympic Gold Medallist was invited to speak on “Splashing for Lights, Chasing our Dreams撥水見光  追逐夢想”, sharing her path to becoming a Olympic Gold medallist and encouraging young people to pursue their dreams. The lecture was attended by more than 800 guests, staff, students, alumni and public face-to-face, and over 160,000 audiences  online. Ms Guo Jingjing shared highlights of her 22-year career as a professional diver. Despite experiencing a number of injuries during training, she never gave up but insisted on overcoming adversity and continuing to train hard. Before retiring, she competed in four Olympic Games and achieved exceptional success. Ms. Guo Jingjing said, “Success is not about persevering when you see hope, but about persevering to see hope. Student Talent Night

The Student Talent Night was successfully held last night on 25 October.  Over 230 guests, students and staff participated in the Night either face-to-face or online! PolyU’s talented students from the PolyU Rope Skipping Team, PolyU Chinese Orchestra, the Hong Kong Wushu Team, the choir and dance teams, Chinese Orchestra, Hong Kong Rope Skipping Team, Wushu Team and The PolyArts, Flamingo and other choir and dancing teams gathered and showcased their talents on stage.  The Night was also graced by the presence of the Council and Court members and the Central Management Team of the University.  In his welcome address, Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, the President, emphasised PolyU’s “proud tradition of promoting the whole-person development of our students, providing them with various opportunities to showcase and enhance their unique talents.”  Moreover, Mr Phoebus Ng, PolyU alumnus and current member of P1X3L, a popular local music group, performed and celebrated with us together as the guest performer at the Student Talent Night.   The Talent Night, which is part of the Student Talent Week (25-28 October), is a colourful celebration event for PolyU’s 85th Anniversary. Organised by the Student Affairs Office (SAO), PolyU’s talented students gather together and perform at their best for this celebration. Come and join us in the Talent Shows from 26 Oct to 28 Oct. PolyU students will continue to perform at the Global Student Hub and you are very welcome to support our talented students!
