Tips on maintaining connection during pandemic

It’s important that we do our best to take care of ourselves, check in with loved ones and find ways to remotely socialise.

We all need contact with other people. Connections promote wellness. Human connection is essential for good health, especially when life presents situations that can cause increased anxiety, like the pandemic we all are facing now.

The good news is social distancing doesn't mean being alone.

  1. Make use of different platforms and social media which are positive ways to communicate with people, learn and share ideas and skills
  2. Make use of device with the videoconferencing function allows you to interact with people face-to-face, even if it's a screen-to-screen version. Just turn your camera on.
  1. Make a phone call: Just hearing someone’s voice can be enough to lift both your spirits. Asking someone how they’re doing can also be all it takes to be honest about feeling isolated and lonely.
  2. Send a card or letter to your family or friends to stay connected
  3. Exchange diary with friends. It is a notebook shared between friends, who take turns to write in their thoughts or other comments
  1. Plan to meet up outside, masked-up and at a safe distance, for regular check-ins.
  1. Sharing feelings, without fear of being criticised or told off, can help us feel calmer and closer to each other. We’re all affected by the pandemic and may be feeling more anxious or irritable than usual, perhaps without even realising why
  1. It feels like the entire world is slowing down. While that can feel unnerving, it also presents an opportunity to rest, reflect, and reset.
