Four students awarded Innovation and Technology Scholarship 2025

Four PolyU students have been awarded the Innovation and Technology Scholarship 2025, jointly sponsored by HSBC and the Innovation and Technology Commission. They are: Miss CHAN Wing Ching   BA (Hons) Scheme in Fashion Mr CHIK Long Tin  BEng in Aviation Engineering Miss LEUNG Tze Ying  BA (Hons) in English and Applied Linguistics Mr YAU Hayden  BBA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance The Scholarships offer the outstanding local undergraduates the opportunity to widen their international/Mainland exposure, gain industry experience, and nurture their passion and commitment for science and technology. It is hoped that the awardees can pursue their dreams with their innovative ideas and help create positive changes to society. Each awardee can receive up to HK$150,000 to participate in a series of PolyU initiatives, including the Overseas/ Mainland Attachment Programme, Mentorship Programme, Local Internship Programme and Service Project Programme. PolyU Students Shine at the 10th “Friends of Diplomacy” Summer Camp

Three students from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) recently participated in the 10th “Friends of Diplomacy” Summer Camp, held from June 1 to 9, 2025. Organised by the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong and hosted by the Hong Kong Youth & Tertiary Students Association, the camp aimed to enhance students’ understanding of international diplomacy. Lau Yat Nam from the Department of Applied Social Sciences, Chan Tsz Tung from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Law Chun Kit from the School of Accounting and Finance were selected to join 30 peers from various institutions. Their nine-day journey took them to Beijing and Indonesia, immersing them in rich cultural and diplomatic experiences. In Beijing, the PolyU students attended a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and visited the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the CPC Central Committee, gaining valuable insights into China’s diplomatic framework. In Indonesia, they rode the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, visited the ASEAN Secretariat, and explored Tencent’s headquarters, learning about the intersection of technology and diplomacy while engaging with local university students. On June 11, Professor James Dai, Associate Dean of Students, attended the summary sharing session hosted by the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong. He listened to the students’ reflections on their enriching experience, highlighting the importance of such opportunities in broadening their international perspectives and fostering lasting connections across Asia.

PolyU Students at the Flag-Raising Delegation in Beijing

The inaugural tour for flag-raising delegations from universities in Hong Kong took place from June 16 to 20, 2025. Organised by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association and supported by the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of CPC Central Committee, the event featured flag-raising team representatives from eight universities in Hong Kong, with the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team making a remarkable participation.  A highlight of the tour was witnessing the National Flag-Raising Ceremony at Tiananmen Square, complemented by an insightful visit to the Tiananmen Square National Flag Guard. Participants observed the ceremonial routines, feeling the solemn atmosphere that left a profound impression on them. This experience deepened their understanding of the significance of safeguarding the national flag, enhancing their sense of national identity and belonging. During their visit to Beijing Language and Culture University, PolyU students engaged in exchanges with the local flag-raising team, observing their drills. The precision and discipline exhibited by their peers inspired the PolyU students, fostering a spirit of teamwork and responsibility. The tour also included visits to historical sites such as the Chinese Communist Party History Museum, the Military Museum of the Chinese People’s Revolution, the Chinese Traditional Culture Museum, the Great Wall at Juyongguan, and the Forbidden City. These enriching experiences broadened students’ horizons and deepened their appreciation for Chinese culture, igniting a passion for historical exploration and traditional values. Through this profound and emotionally resonant journey, PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team members expressed their commitment to contributing to the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, vowing to transform their patriotism into action for the future of their Motherland.

ICAC Ambassador Programme Closing Ceremony_image_01

2024/25 ICAC Ambassador Programme – Closing Ceremony

On 19 June 2025, the ICAC Ambassador Programme for the 2024/25 academic year officially came to a close with a memorable Closing Ceremony held at the ICAC Headquarters. This year, 19 tertiary institutions across Hong Kong participated in the programme, including The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Mr Diman Mak, Director of Community Relations, presented certificates to the ICAC Ambassadors and their buddies. Representatives from the Student Affairs Office also attended the event to witness and appreciate their contributions and accomplishments. The highlight of the ceremony was a showcase where ambassadors from different tertiary institutions re-created their signature campus activities. PolyU proudly brought back the Instant Photo Booth — a creative and engaging way to raise awareness about probity. Ambassadors were invited to visit the ICAC Exhibition Hall, enjoy a cup of coffee at Café “1974”, and appreciate the current art exhibition. It was a meaningful end to a fruitful journey.  We extend our heartfelt thanks to the ICAC for their continued support and to all ambassadors for their enthusiasm and dedication. PolyU Student Wins the Most Impactful Project Award at the JCSCCP Sustainability Leadership Programme

We are pleased to announce that the student-led project, UPonCYCLE, has won the Most Impactful Project award in the Upcycling category of the Jockey Club Sustainable Campus Consumer Programme (JCSCCP) Sustainability Leadership Programme on 29 May 2025. This project, led by a team of eight dedicated PolyU student leaders, aimed to promote sustainable clothing consumption within the PolyU community. In collaboration with the Campus Facilities and Sustainability Office, UPonCYCLE delivered two upcycling workshops and hosted a booth at the Zero Waste Living Fair. Their initiatives successfully engaged over 200 participants, diverted 11 kilograms of clothing from landfills, and inspired an impressive 98% of workshop participants to adopt sustainable living practices.  The project aims to debunk sustainability myths in the fashion industry and cultivate a mindset of responsible consumption within the PolyU community by promoting alternative sustainable choices and introducing innovative upcycling practices.  We congratulate the UPonCYCLE team on this remarkable achievement and their commitment to sustainability and responsible consumption within the PolyU community.

PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team Commemorates the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the War of Resistance

This year marks the 80th anniversary of victory in the War of Resistance, a significant milestone in our history. On 25 May 2025, the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team gathered at the Cenotaph for Martyrs in Wu Kau Tang to pay tribute to the courageous revolutionaries who sacrificed their lives during this pivotal time. This commemorative event provided PolyU students with a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of history and reflect on the sacrifices made for our freedom. As team members poignantly stated, “Without the sacrifices of our heroes, we would not enjoy the peaceful lives we have today. History must not be forgotten.” Such reflections emphasise the importance of remembering those who fought valiantly for our peace. By participating in this event, students not only honoured the heroic deeds of those who stood against oppression but also cultivated a sense of unity and resilience. Engaging with our history fosters a profound appreciation for peace and strengthens students’ national identities, sense of belonging, and patriotism. PolyU Organises National Education Tour to Guizhou

The Guizhou National Education Exchange Tour took place from 14th to 20th May in Guizhou, China, organised by the Student Affairs Office. Fourteen members of the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team embarked on this enriching journey. The tour included visits to significant Chinese revolutionary historical sites, such as the Zunyi Meeting Site and Loushanguan, providing students with a deeper understanding of China’s history. At the Chinese Yangming Cultural Park, participants gained insights into Chinese philosophy, enriching their cultural awareness. They also explored cutting-edge technology at the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope and the National Big Data (Guizhou) Comprehensive Experimental Zone, exposing them to innovative developments in science and technology. A highlight of the trip was the visit to Guizhou University, where Prof. James Dai, Associate Dean of Students, officiated a plaque unveiling ceremony to establish a joint national education base. The flag-raising ceremony allowed PolyU students to collaborate with their Guizhou University counterparts, fostering teamwork and cultural exchange. A seminar on flag-raising etiquette and drill training further enhanced their skills and techniques.  Overall, this trip significantly deepened participants’ understanding of China’s rich heritage, while fostering a stronger sense of national identity and pride.   Media Coverage: CRI Online

PolyU Sports Team Annual Prize Ceremony celebrates seventh consecutive championship

PolyU’s student athletes have achieved a significant milestone by securing the Overall Championships for the seventh consecutive year at the 2024-2025 Inter-collegiate Competition organised by The University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China!  The PolyU Sports Team Annual Prize Presentation Ceremony was held on 14 May to recognize outstanding student athletes with scholarships and awards, and to acknowledge the generous support of donors. The vibrant atmosphere on the ceremony fully demonstrated the inheritance and cohesion of PolyU's sporting spirit.  Prof. Jin-Guang TENG, President, delivered a speech congratulating all the award-winning athletes and expressed his anticipation for even greater achievements from our student-athletes in future competitions. Dean of Students Talk Series 2024/25: Spirit of the Two Sessions 2025 – Economy and Livelihood, Education for Talent and Innovative Technology

On 30 April, we were honoured to welcome Ir Prof. CHAN Fan, HKSAR Deputy to the National People’s Congress and Vice President of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, along with Mr Hendrick SIN, HKSAR Deputy to the National People’s Congress and Chairman of China Prosperity Capital Fund, as our distinguished guest speakers for the Dean of Students Talk Series 2024/25. This engaging event took place at PolyU and addressed around 100 students, staff, and management, fostering a deeper understanding of the country’s development direction and its significant impact on Hong Kong. The event commenced with welcoming remarks from Prof. Kwok-yin WONG, Vice President (Education), followed by a souvenir presentation to our esteemed guests by Prof. Jin-Guang TENG, President, along with Prof. WONG. The interactive Q&A session was moderated by Prof. Horace MUI, Interim Dean of Students.

PolyU Sports Teams have clinched the title of Seven-Time Grand Slam Champions

PolyU Sports Teams have once again dominated the competition, clinching the Grand Slam title for the seventh consecutive time at the 2024/25 Inter-Collegiate Competition organised by the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China (USFHK).  Throughout the year, PolyU’s Sports Teams have achieved remarkable success, securing a total of 10 championships, 9 1st runners-up, and 9 2nd runners-up positions across 33 sports events. A total of 10 PolyU students have also been recognised as “USFHK Most Valuable Players” or “USFHK Individual Champions”, acknowledging their exceptional performances in their respective events. In addition, Chan Chung Yin was named “Sportsman of the Year”, recognising his impressive performances this year.
