“Limitless” Festival 2026 Officially Commenced

The “Limitless” Festival 2026 Kick-off Ceremony cum Mini Concert was held on 28 January 2026 bringing together around 270 students, staff, and guests to embrace inclusion and diversity on the campus.  The ceremony began with an inspiring speech by Professor Horace Mui, Dean of Students, followed by meaningful sharing from Ms Ho Yuen Kei, Gold Medallist at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, and Mr Marcus Lee, Chairman of the Equal Opportunities Foundation. Their words reminded us that inclusion is a shared responsibility and we can all contribute to, regardless of our position. We were also delighted to recognise our 2024/25 Limitless Ambassadors and our beloved AmbassaDog, Bene, thanking them for their dedication to promoting inclusion and integration.  The atmosphere reached its peak with a vibrant lion-eye dotting ceremony and lion dance performance by the lion dance team (唐氏會醒獅隊), filling the venue with energy and celebration. This was followed by heartfelt stories shared by our alumnus with visual impairment Mr Merrick Ho and a current special educational needs (SEN) student. Lastly, a mini lunch concert featured talented artists with disabilities, Mr Yang Enhua, Mr Chris Tang and Ms Sharon Choi (owner of Bene). With their diverse abilities and unique strengths, their music brought the PolyU community together and added a joyful rhythm to the day. Following the ceremony, the Festival included a series of activities, such as exhibitions, inclusive boccia, workshops, a mental health first aid certificate course, visits to the Caring Hub (also known as Diversity Resource Centre), and sharing sessions presented by individuals with SEN. This is only the beginning. Join us and be part of the journey!

PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team's Outstanding Contribution Award Presentation Ceremony

On 22 January 2026, the Alumni Atrium was buzzed with excitement as we celebrated the Outstanding Contribution Award Presentation Ceremony for the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team, honouring our students’ exceptional achievements and invaluable contributions to national education. The event began with participants standing solemnly to sing "Ode to the Motherland" (《歌唱祖國》), a powerful expression of shared love and pride for our nation. Prof. Ben Young, Vice President (Student and Global Affairs), warmly welcomed attendees and applauded the students for their unwavering commitment and disciplined efforts in flag-raising ceremonies. He expressed hope that these values would inspire future generations and extended heartfelt gratitude to our generous donors for their continuous support. A total of 27 students were honoured with the Outstanding Contribution Award, while another 22 received the Distinguished Team Member Award. Esteemed donors presented these accolades, recognising the hard work and dedication of our students. Captain Wang Yanchao expressed sincere thanks on behalf of the team, emphasising that the award symbolises their collective dedication and serves as both recognition of their efforts and a motivation for future achievements in their patriotic duty. The event concluded with closing remarks from Prof. James Dai, Associate Dean of Students, who invited Mr Ng Wing-ki Stanley, CEO of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Foundation, to share his insights. Mr Ng expressed his delight at witnessing the impressive development of the team. This ceremony not only celebrated our students’ achievements but also reinforced the spirit of patriotism and community that unites us all.

PolyU “INSPIRE” Mentorship Programme Annual Gathering 2025

The “INSPIRE” Mentorship Programme Annual Gathering 2025 was held on 16 January, 2026 at Hotel ICON, bringing together 260 mentors and mentees in a heartfelt expression of gratitude. Together, they reflected on another year of growth and development. Centred on the theme “Engage, Empower, Evolve,” the event highlighted the Programme’s commitment to strengthening connections between mentors and mentees, encouraging both to embrace challenges and seize opportunities that foster growth, knowledge transfer, and a global perspective. A special thanks to Mr Liu Sing Cheong, the visionary behind “INSPIRE”, for delivering an insightful address that illuminated the long-term aspirations and principles of the initiative. The evening also included a performance by the PolyU Student Affairs Office Philharmonic Orchestra, which added a profound artistic dimension and further enhanced the sense of community among participants. Thanks to the ongoing collaboration and dedication of both mentors and mentees, “INSPIRE” remains a cornerstone of the University’s efforts to nurture talent, encourage professional development, and promote lifelong learning within the PolyU community.

Together for National Education: PolyU and Guizhou University Join Forces

On 1 January 2026, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) hosted a memorable flag-raising ceremony to usher in the New Year. This significant event was jointly performed by the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team and the Guizhou University Flag Guards, who made a special journey to Hong Kong for the occasion. The collaboration between both teams reflects PolyU's commitment to fostering strong ties and promoting national education initiatives. This effort was exemplified during the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team's visit to Guizhou University on 19 May 2025, where meaningful exchanges took place. Upon arriving in Hong Kong, the Guizhou University team immediately engaged in rehearsals and practices with the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team. Both teams worked tirelessly together, culminating in a beautifully synchronised foot drill that showcased their dedication and commitment. Following the joint practice, a tour of the University Gallery was organised. A dedicated docent from the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team shared insights into the university's rich history and development, enlightening the visitors on its prestigious legacy since establishment. The day culminated in a symposium that took place after the flag-raising ceremony, fostering discussions on national education initiatives between PolyU and Guizhou University. This event underscores PolyU's ongoing efforts to enhance awareness and understanding of national identity and values, paving the way for future collaborations and educational advancements.

Visit from National University of Singapore: Exploring Holistic Student Development

On 17 December 2025, PolyU welcomed a delegation from the National University of Singapore (NUS), led by Associate Prof. Ho Han Kiat, NUS Dean of Students. The visit focused on sharing experiences in holistic student development and support services, with presentations and discussions arranged by Prof. Horace Mui, PolyU Interim Dean of Students, Prof. Daniel Shek, PolyU Associate Vice President (Undergraduate Programme), and PolyU Student Affairs Office management representatives.  The day featured a guided campus tour of key facilities, including the Industrial Centre, Diversity Resource Centre, University Gallery, and Hung Hom Student Hostel. Following that, participants enjoyed a delightful dinner at Hotel ICON hosted by Prof. Ben Young, PolyU Vice President (Student and Global Affairs), further strengthening connections between the two institutions and paving the way for future collaboration. Looking forward to continued partnerships ahead!

PolyU Flag-Raising Ceremony to Celebrate the 88th Anniversary PolyU_03

PolyU Commemorates 88th Anniversary with Flag-Raising Ceremony

On 25 November, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) hosted a flag-raising ceremony to mark its 88th anniversary. The event was officiated by Mr SONG Yipin, the Deputy Director of the Office for Safeguarding National Security of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR. PolyU President, Prof. Jin-Guang TENG, was joined by Council and Court members, other University senior management, University Fellows, Outstanding Alumni, members of the PolyU Foundation, and more than 700 guests, staff, students, and alumni. The ceremony featured the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team, which includes 24 undergraduate and postgraduate students. The team engaged in extensive rehearsals and preparations leading up to the event. Their attention to detail contributed to the smooth execution of the ceremony, promoting a sense of unity among attendees and reflecting PolyU’s commitment to its history and community.

President’s Sharing Session with Students

The first President’s Sharing Session with Students of the 2025/26 academic year took place on 11 November 2025, bringing together nearly 90 students for an engaging and constructive dialogue with the University’s Management. President Prof. Jin-Guang Teng opened the session by sharing updates on PolyU’s latest developments and future directions, followed by Prof. Ben Young, Vice President (Student and Global Affairs), who highlighted the wide range of student support services and encouraged students to make the most of the opportunities available for both personal and academic growth. During the interactive Q&A session, students shared their views and raised questions on topics such as communal facilities, course curriculum, and career support. The Central Management Team listened attentively and provided thoughtful responses, reaffirming the University’s commitment to fostering open communication and building a student-centred community. The session served as a valuable platform for dialogue, reflecting PolyU’s dedication to nurturing a connected and inclusive campus environment.

The W.I.S.E.R. marked the beginning of a new term: 2025/26 appointed student representatives of University Committees and Institutional Services

The Student Development Section, SAO coordinates student representation in 2025/26 non-elective positions across 7 University committees and liaison groups at the beginning of the new academic year. Passionate candidates who demonstrated strong communication and problem-solving abilities during the panel interviews and group discussions, as they shared their passion for bridging student voices to the University. Out of the 140 applications from undergraduate and postgraduate students, 19 students have been appointed for the one-year term from 1 November 2025 to 31 October 2026.   The non-elective posts have become the official platform for bridging student voices in campus aspects such as catering services, health and safety, culture promotion, student development and affairs, university campus development, library services, Industrial Centre and so on.   The appointed representatives received student development opportunities under the Whole-person Induction for Student ExComs and Representatives (The W.I.S.E.R.). The main goal of The W.I.S.E.R. student development  series is to nurture character building and whole-person development including a sense of purpose, to bring a positive impact to the community they belong to. To prepare them for their new roles, student representatives came together for an interactive Induction workshop on 28 October 2025. Through networking and rapport-building, the W.I.S.E.R. participants gained a clearer understanding of their responsibilities and engaged in a rich exchange of innovative ideas.   The Training Day Camp on 2 November was structured with various team challenges and a high-element rope course, focusing on developing trust. The day-camp activities reaped valuable outcomes from fostering a proactive mindset to refining skills for gathering and sharing student opinions. By the end of the full-day programme, our student representatives had acquired the core skills of taking the initiative to effectively represent their peers in the coming term as well as achieving personal growth.   The W.I.S.E.R. marked the formal commencement of their term. The appointed representatives are now positioned to play a crucial role in cultivating ‘U Matter’ awareness within their term of office.

Celebrating Unity: The PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team’s Mid-Autumn Festival and Welcome Lunch

On 3 October 2025, the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team gathered for a vibrant Mid-Autumn Festival and Welcome Lunch at the Alumni Atrium, an event designed to celebrate both the cherished festival and the arrival of new members. The event began with participants standing solemnly to sing “Ode to the Motherland” (《歌唱祖國》), a powerful expression of their shared love and pride for the nation that set the tone for the day. The event began with heartfelt opening remarks from Prof. James DAI, Associate Dean of Students, who warmly welcomed the new members. His words resonated deeply, fostering a sense of joy and camaraderie among all attendees. Following Prof. DAI, ZHU Hao, a representative from the Flag-Raising Team, captivated the audience with his speech, sharing personal insights and experiences that highlighted the importance of unity and commitment within the team. As the event unfolded, old and new members introduced themselves, laying the groundwork for lasting friendships. An ice-breaking game sparked laughter and interaction, further enhancing the sense of community. The highlight of the event was the performances that showcased the diverse talents within the team. Members delighted the audience with hip hop, Xinjiang dance, and enchanting melodies from the Chinese bamboo flute. The atmosphere reached new heights when spontaneous invitations led to impromptu singing, adding to the joyous spirit of the celebration. As the event drew to a close, it was evident that the gathering had successfully strengthened the bonds among team members. Filled with laughter and joy, the day reinforced their commitment to patriotism and a collective aspiration to make a positive contribution to both the nation and the broader PolyU community.

Over 1,300 guests and PolyU members attend the flag-raising ceremony to celebrate 76th anniversary of founding of the People’s Republic of China

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) today hosted a flag-raising ceremony on campus to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The flag-raising ceremony was officiated by PolyU Council Chairman Dr LAM Tai-fai; President Prof. Jin-Guang TENG; and Mr BAO Haibin, Director-General of the Policy Research Department, Office of the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR. They were joined by Deputy Council Chairman Dr Daniel YIP Chung-yin; University Court Chairman Dr Katherine NGAN NG Yu-ying; Treasurer of the University Mr Arthur LEE Kin; Honorary Court Chairman Dr Roy CHUNG Chi-ping; and President Emeritus Prof. the Honourable POON Chung-kwong, together with Council and Court members, other University senior management, Honorary Graduates, University Fellows, Outstanding Alumni, members of the PolyU Foundation, and over 1,300 distinguished guests, staff, students and alumni, wishing prosperity and stability for the Nation and Hong Kong. The ceremony was performed by the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team. Dr Lam Tai-fai said, “The People’s Republic of China has flourished over the past 76 years, bringing unprecedented opportunities to Hong Kong. As one of the world’s top 100 universities, PolyU is committed to nurturing talent and future-ready leaders with a strong sense of national pride, and strengthening a sense of national identity and belonging to the Nation among the University’s community. We are actively promoting the integrated development of education, technology and talents, contributing to the Nation’s efforts to become leading country in these fields.” Prof. Jin-Guang Teng remarked, “This year marks the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, with the Nation continuing to achieve remarkable success on its path of high-quality development. As an innovative world-class university, PolyU will continue to leverage its strengths in education, research and knowledge transfer to drive world-leading research and innovation. The University will support Hong Kong’s development as an international innovation and technology centre and international hub for post-secondary education, contributing to the national goal of building China into a leading country in education, technology and talents.” PolyU is committed to promoting Chinese culture and has been organising the “PolyU Chinese Culture Festival” series of events to cultivate a deeper appreciation of Chinese heritage among the younger generation. To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, PolyU held a screening of the film “The National Anthem” at the Jockey Club Auditorium after the flag-raising ceremony. The film tells the story behind the national anthem, “March of the Volunteers.” The song captures the fearless and tenacious fighting spirit of the Chinese nation.
