“Hearing Every Voice: Dialogue Promotes Inclusion – The Way We Talk Film Screening and Pre-Screening Sharing Session” was successfully held on 11 April at the Jockey Club Auditorium. The event drew over 700 participants, including PolyU students, staff, alumni, as well as representatives from non-profit organisations. Ms Linda Lam, Chairperson of Equal Opportunities Commission and Mr Arthur Lee, Treasurer of the University, also attended as distinguished guests. The evening began with opening remarks from Prof. Miranda Lou, Executive Vice President, and Ms Cecilia Ho, President of Lee Hysan Foundation. The pre-screening discussion, moderated by Prof. Horace Mui, Interim Dean of Students, featured director Mr Adam Wong and lead actor Mr Marco Ng, who shared their inspirations and experiences during the filmmaking process. PolyU student Trinity Yeung and alumnus Jess Shek, both with special educational needs, spoke about the University’s efforts to foster an inclusive and accessible learning environment, and reflected on their personal journeys from campus to the workplace. The guests also exchanged views on how to build a more inclusive society. A highlight of the evening was the live performance of the film’s theme song ‘What if’ by young actors Wong Wai Hang and Cheng Chun Hei, who delivered a touching rendition through singing, guitar, and Hong Kong Sign Language — earning a warm round of applause from the audience. PolyU is committed to continuing to work with the wider community to promote diversity and build a more inclusive society.

The PolyU High Table Dinner cum Dean of Students Talk Series 2024/25

On 9 April, the PolyU High Table Dinner cum Dean of Students Talk Series brought together over 270 students, distinguished guests, and esteemed members of the senior management team for an evening of inspiration and celebration! The event commenced with a heartfelt welcome address by our President, Prof Jin-Guang TENG, followed by an insightful speech by Ir YAU Kwok Fai, the Executive Director of Able Engineering Holdings Limited, esteemed PolyU alumnus, and recipient of the PolyU Fellowship in 2017. His talk, titled “Guiding Lights: The Mentors Who Shaped My Journey”, highlighted the transformative power of mentorship in his career. He expressed his gratitude to one of his mentors, Prof. Jan-Ming KO, Emeritus Professor (Structural Engineering) from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, who was also an honourable guest at the dinner. The evening was further enriched by an “Integration” video, showcasing PolyU’s vibrant and culturally diverse campus life, and elevated by a mesmerising classical music performance by the PolyU Orchestra. The dinner was attended by around 230 students from various departments in PolyU, with over half being non-local students representing 27 countries, reflecting PolyU's commitment to fostering a dynamic and inclusive academic community.

PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team Makes Inspiring Debut at National Flag-Raising Competition

On 6 April 2025, the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team made their debut at the National Flag-Raising Competition, organised by the Hong Kong Army Cadets Association at the Youth Development and National Education Base in Tsing Yi. This significant event featured 46 teams and over 300 participants from various universities, institutions, secondary schools, and primary schools. Drawing on their extensive experience from regular flag-raising training, the PolyU Student Flag-Raising team executed the ceremony with standardised Chinese marching techniques, showcasing exceptional discipline, teamwork, and profound respect for the national flag. Participating for the first time, this experience enhanced the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team’s understanding of the national flag and anthem, as well as the history and culture of our motherland. It strengthened their national pride and identity, reinforcing their commitment to national security. Furthermore, the competition fostered a sense of camaraderie among team members. This inaugural participation not only highlighted the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team’s dedication but also empowered them to promote the values of patriotism and national security within the PolyU community.

Presentation Ceremony for Outstanding Student Award and Presidential Student Leadership Award 2024/25

The Outstanding Student Award (OSA) and Presidential Student Leadership Award (PSLA) Presentation Ceremony 2024/25 successfully concluded today at Hotel ICON. This ceremony celebrated and recognised the remarkable achievements of a total of 55 PolyU students, who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to their academic pursuits and leadership abilities. The event, followed by a luncheon, was attended by Prof. Jin-Guang TENG, PolyU President, along with members of PolyU Senior Management Team, Faculty Deans and Heads, high school principals and parents. The afternoon gathering showcased meaningful interactions, where attendees exchanged experiences and insights, fostering a spirit of collaboration and support within the PolyU community. Let us extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Most Outstanding PolyU Student, Mr HUI Tsz Kwai from the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, for his exemplary accomplishments, and to Mr MAN Ka Hei, also from the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, on receiving the President's Distinguished Student Leadership Award! Olympic fencing gold medallist Vivian Kong inspires PolyU’s community to pursue dreams with passion and perseverance

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is committed to fostering whole-person education through diverse activities, including inviting accomplished leaders from the community to share their success stories, encouraging young people to embrace their aspirations and create their own futures. In line with this commitment, PolyU hosted the Dean of Students Talk Series: “Together We Dream, We Fly” today at the Jockey Club Auditorium. In particular, Ms Vivian KONG, a three-time Olympian who made history by winning Hong Kong’s first-ever fencing gold medal in women’s individual épée at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, was invited to deliver an inspirational talk to the PolyU community. The event attracted around 1,000 attendees, including members of PolyU’s management, staff and students. Under the theme “Smiling Together, Striding On”, Ms Kong shared her journey to becoming an Olympic champion, balancing elite competition with academic excellence, developing mental resilience, and advancing her career in sport-related fields. Ms Kong’s accomplishments extend beyond her Olympic gold medal and world number-one ranking in fencing. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Stanford University and a Master’s degree in Chinese Law from Renmin University of China. She currently serves as Assistant External Affairs Manager at The Hong Kong Jockey Club, where she focuses on youth and sports development and supports community social betterment initiatives. Ms Vivian Kong said, “I am truly fortunate to have discovered fencing. It is my greatest passion. Winning gold at the Paris Olympics is not just my achievement alone. I share it with everyone who cheered for us along the way. Thanks to support from the community , athletes like myself were able to fully devote ourselves to training and to performing at our very best when representing Hong Kong, China. One of the community supporters was The Hong Kong Jockey Club, which for many years has been a steadfast supporter of community and elite sports development, as well as helping to establish major sports facilities. Aside from providing a solid foundation for the advancement of elite sports, the Club has enabled people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to experience the joy of sports. That’s why I’m so pleased to be part of the Jockey Club family. I look forward to contributing to Hong Kong’s sports development and to supporting the Club’s purpose of acting continuously for the betterment of society.” During an interactive session facilitated by Ir Prof. Horace K. W. MUI, Interim Dean of Students at PolyU, and Mr Oscar LEE, Deputy Executive Manager, Public Affairs (Charities Communication), Ms Kong engaged with two PolyU student-athletes, namely Ms KWAN Yee-man, Fencing athlete, and Mr MAK Hong-nin, Judo athlete. Their discussion explored practical strategies for maintaining academic excellence while pursuing sporting ambitions, effective time and stress management, and personal growth through competitive challenges. Prof. Jin-Guang TENG, President of PolyU, said, “We are very honoured to have Ms Kong share her experiences on campus today. Her accomplishments speak for themselves, and her dedication, both in and beyond sports, makes her an inspiring role model for PolyU students. I hope our students will learn from Ms Kong’s pursuit of excellence with her determination and resilience. PolyU strongly supports the development of sports and student-athletes. Sports nurture important personal attributes such as teamwork, discipline, resilience, and perseverance. These attributes are vital for navigating life’s challenges and creating a positive impact in terms of both individual growth and societal advancement.” Continuing its longstanding tradition of fostering youth development and academic advancement, The Hong Kong Jockey Club provided invaluable support by facilitating Ms Kong’s inspirational talk at this campus event. Over the years, The Hong Kong Jockey Club has provided unwavering support to PolyU, contributing substantial funding  through The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust to advance PolyU’s mission as an innovative world-class university. The enduring partnership has seen the Club’s Charities Trust fund major campus facilities, including the Jockey Club Auditorium and Jockey Club Innovation Tower. In recent years, The Hong Kong Jockey Club supported PolyU’s Global STEM Professors by establishing JC STEM Labs and funded various significant projects in applied social sciences, social innovation and rehabilitation sciences. In addition, it has provided scholarships and fellowships for PolyU students. PolyU places a strong emphasis on students’ whole-person development, including sporting excellence. The University offers various schemes that enable student-athletes to excel academically while pursuing their sporting dreams. The Outstanding Sportsmen Recommendation Scheme, established in 1998, has admitted over 1,500 elite athletes to date. Complementing this initiative, the University also provides the Student-Athlete Learning Support and Admission Scheme (SALSA), and an Elite Athletes Study Programme in collaboration with the Hong Kong Sports Institute. Additionally, the Special Talents Admission and Recognition Scheme (STARS) supports the holistic development of students with special talents not only in sports, but also in arts and culture, leadership and community services, and STEM. President’s Sharing Session with Students

The President's Sharing Session with Students 2024/25 was held on 20 March this year, highlighting the University's commitment to fostering open communication and engagement with the student community. Students actively participated, sharing their perspectives and posing questions directly to the Central Management Team (CMT).  Our President, Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, provided updates on recent developments and initiatives at PolyU, and underscored the University's commitment to creating a comprehensive learning environment. Vice President (Student and Global Affairs), Prof. Ben Young, elaborated on the wide array of student support services available, encouraging students to utilise them for a more fulfilling university experience.   The engaging Q&A session addressed key concerns including the university's development in the medical school, artificial intelligence (AI) development, student integration, and academic-related matters raised by students. CMT members listened attentively and provided insightful responses, reaffirming their dedication to understanding and addressing student needs. The session promoted open dialogue, allowing for valuable insights into students' experiences and challenges, and reflecting PolyU's ongoing commitment to cultivating an inclusive university community through active student engagement.

PolyU Co-organises “WeTech for Good” with Tencent

On 15 March, Tencent hosted “WeTech for Good” at Chiang Chen Studio Theatre, co-organised by PolyU. During the event, Tencent announced the establishment of the Tencent WeTech Academy, marking a significant step as the city transitions towards a technology-driven economy and aligns with national strategic goals for innovation and development.    The Academy was officially launched by officiating guests, including Mr Paul CHAN, the Financial Secretary; Prof. Jin-Guang TENG, PolyU President; and Mr Dowson TONG, Tencent Senior Executive Vice-President and CEO of Tencent’s Cloud and Smart Industries Group. During the ceremony, Prof. Horace MUI, Interim Dean of Students, delivered an insightful introduction to PolyU, emphasising the diverse range of support and services available to students. PolyU Awarded Good Organisation Award at the Good Citizen Award (GCA) Presentation Ceremony 2024

We are thrilled to announce that PolyU has been honoured with the "Good Organisation Award" at the “Good Citizen Award (GCA) Presentation Ceremony 2024”! The Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) held the “Good Citizen Award (GCA) Presentation Ceremony 2024” at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 23 February 2025. During the ceremony, the Force honoured 80 citizens and seven organisations for their contributions to crime prevention and public safety. To protect students from falling victim to scams, PolyU has collaborated with HKPF to launch the "Online Anti-deception Learning Kit" since 2024. Completion of this course is mandatory for all new students before enrolment. As of December 2024, over 13,000 students have successfully completed the course. The programme has proven highly effective, leading to a significant reduction in telephone deception cases targeting university students, particularly among non-local students. In the third quarter of 2024, the number of victims on campus decreased by 50% year-on-year, accompanied by a notable reduction in financial losses. Additionally, the university continues to hold anti-deception seminars on campus to promote awareness among students. This recognition highlights our commitment to supporting the HKPF in their efforts to combat crime and enhance public safety. PolyU launches Outstanding Student Academy to inspire future leaders

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is committed to promoting holistic education and nurturing all-round future leaders. To motivate students to thrive in both their academic and non-academic pursuits, PolyU established The Outstanding Student Academy (The Academy) in the 2024/25 academic year. The Academy brings together previous winners of the annual “Outstanding Students Award” and “Presidential Student Leadership Award,” who have demonstrated academic excellence, strong leadership abilities and a commitment to serving society, while also fostering connections within the University community. The inauguration ceremony of The Academy was held on campus today. Prof. Jin-Guang TENG, PolyU President; Prof. Miranda LOU, Executive Vice President; Prof. Kwok-yin WONG, Vice President (Education); and Prof. Ben YOUNG, Vice President (Student and Global Affairs), along with other members of the PolyU management team, faculty/school deans, heads of departments, guests and students gathered to witness this significant moment. Prof. Ben Young outlined the significance and prospects of The Academy in his welcoming remarks and said, “The Academy is a dynamic platform designed to cultivate future leaders who will navigate the complexities of our world with integrity and ingenuity, an innovative mindset, and a strong sense of social responsibility. It will provide a wealth of resources, guidance and mentorship for its members to explore their talents and aspirations. The Academy is a testament to PolyU’s belief that every student possesses the potential to make meaningful impact—not only at PolyU but also in Hong Kong, our Nation and beyond, and the University will support them every step of the way.” The Academy aims to harness the talents of exceptional students. Its four core objectives are to foster leaders, inspire through interaction, strengthen network ties and cultivate sustainable connections, with a view to supporting students’ academic journey and future development. Currently, The Academy has around 100 members, including the Executive Committee (ExCo) comprising 15 outstanding students from different schools and departments, as well as the past awarded students of the “Outstanding Student Awards” and the “Presidential Student Leadership Award.” At the Ceremony, Prof. Jin-Guang Teng presented an Academy Lapel Pin to the ExCo members in recognition of their distinguished achievements in academic pursuits, community service and leadership, while also encouraging them to continue their efforts. An engaging video then introduced guests to the objectives, vision and mission of The Academy. ExCo member GE Yufei, a Year 4 student from the Faculty of Science, gave a captivating Guzheng performance, contributing to the upbeat mood of the event. Finally, the ExCo President WANG Yanze, recipient of the President’s Distinguished Student Leadership Award 2023 and a Year 3 student from the Faculty of Engineering, delivered a heartfelt expression of gratitude to the University, bringing the Ceremony to a successful conclusion. The Academy has already hosted a number of impactful events, including the Unity in Diversity Bamboo Workshop, a Green Promotion initiative on Campus focusing on energy and water conservation, and various workshops and visits related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and environmental sustainability. Looking ahead to the rest of 2025, The Academy is set to expand its outreach into the PolyU community by hosting the High Table Dinner cum Dean of Students Talk Series as well as workshops and training sessions on leadership, sustainability and design thinking. There will also be an overseas trip to further cultivate members’ global perspectives and sense of social responsibility.
