On 29 June 2026, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison (PLA Hong Kong Garrison) visited PolyU to conduct a flag-raising training session for the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team. The training focused on flag-raising protocol and foot drill techniques, with an emphasis on discipline, precision, and ceremonial etiquette. Under the guidance of the PLA Hong Kong Garrison instructors, team members practised each movement carefully to ensure that every step and gesture reflected the solemnity and dignity of the occasion.
The training also served as preparation for PolyU’s Flag-Raising Ceremony on 1 July 2026, commemorating the 29th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Through professional instruction and repeated practice, students strengthened their marching skills, refined their posture and formations, improved coordination and timing, and gained greater confidence in performing before a large audience.
Prof. James Dai, Associate Dean of Students, expressed his sincere appreciation to the PLA Hong Kong Garrison for their support and expertise. He noted that the training not only enhanced the students’ technical skills but also reinforced their understanding of the significance of ceremonial protocol and their commitment to excellence.
For members of the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team, the opportunity to learn directly from the PLA Hong Kong Garrison was both valuable and inspiring. They appreciated the instructors’ dedication and guidance, and approached the training with enthusiasm and determination. The experience enabled them to further develop their skills and teamwork, preparing them to participate in the ceremony with confidence, professionalism, and pride.
