EAGLE 2024-25 Empowering Global Leaders and Creating Impact in Nepal

EAGLE 2024/25: Empowering Global Leaders and Creating Impact in Nepal – A Year in Review

As the 2025/26 academic year begins, let’s recall the journey of the EAGLE Global Youth Leadership Programme 2024/25. EAGLE united a diverse PolyU student community, exemplifying leadership ethics, global citizenship, and innovation and aspiration.

A Year of Growth: From Thematic Trainings to Global Impact

The EAGLE journey commenced with immersive workshops on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), intercultural competence, and a leadership training camp, fostering teamwork, resilience, and a global outlook. Sessions on ethics, social innovation, and design thinking empowered students to develop a moral character and creative solutions to real-world challenges. Through local social innovation activities and participatory design, students connected classroom learning with practical action. Open to all PolyU UGC-funded undergraduates, EAGLE offered an inclusive and flexible learning environment.

Project Preparation and Leadership Development

Over the winter break, students selected for EAGLE the Adventurers participated in additional sessions with World Vision Hong Kong and began preparing their social innovation projects. In early 2025, they worked closely with partners in Nepal to co-create these projects, supported by on-campus collaboration and guidance. Ongoing workshops in Hong Kong helped them further develop their skills, build lasting friendships, and deepen their understanding of global issues.

Project Preparation and Leadership Development

After months of preparation, EAGLE the Adventurers embarked on a life-changing journey to Kathmandu. Highlights included:

  • World Vision International Nepal & the BRiCKK Project: Learning about World Vision’s work and safeguarding policies, and witnessing local solutions in action at the BRiCKK project, inspiring reflection on the SDGs.
  • United Nations House Visit: Gaining insights into Nepal’s socio-economic challenges and SDG localisation from UNDP and UN Volunteers.
  • The Chinese Embassy in Nepal: Ambassador CHEN Song discussed China-Nepal relations and local projects, while students presented and received feedback on their social innovation ideas.
  • Tarun Secondary School Collaboration: Co-developing practical solutions—such as solar-powered fans, oil filtration systems, and tech-driven soap dispensers—to improve hygiene and sustainability for over 1,800 students.

This immersive experience fostered resilience, empathy, and leadership, leaving a lasting impact on both the local community and the EAGLE team.

Celebrating Every EAGLE Participant

While the Nepal trip was a milestone, EAGLE’s true spirit lies in the collective efforts of all participants. Whether attending training sessions, workshops, the leadership camp, or joining as Adventurers, every student helped shape the EAGLE experience and set a powerful example for the PolyU community.
