Event Highlight: Sustaining Humanitarian Spirit on Campus 🤝
The Campus YMCA of PolyU and the South Asian Society co-hosted " Memories of Gaza: Voices That won’t be forgotten - From Awareness to Action: Sustaining Humanitarian Spirit on Campus," a powerful dialogue with guests from the Hong Kong Red Cross (HKRC). The event featured insights into dilemmas and resilience reflection, shared by Dr. Au Yiu-kai who is an experienced medical volunteer of service missions driven by the International Committee of the Red Cross amid the Israel–Gaza conflict. From the fundamental principles upheld by the HKRC to vital humanitarian efforts in Gaza conflict zones, our student audience gained a broader understanding of the theme: from awareness to action. With over 30 participants, this meaningful session fostered global awareness and motivated continued humanitarian engagement on campus.
“I have seen videos about the situation in Gaza online, but Dr. Au’s sharing about his first-hand experiences definitely brought a different perspective to the table. I am stuck by the magnitude of this humanitarian crisis, but also in awe of the courage of these medical volunteers behind the scenes.” Charlotte, Campus YMCA of PolyU
“It was very inspiring to hear from someone who risks their own safety to help people in need, and so heartening to see more students caring about global challenges. ” Harris, South Asian Society, SAO, PolyU
