Event Highlights

On 22 September, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) hosted the “Youth Student Exchange Forum” in collaboration with Renmin University of China (RenminU), commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (War of Resistance) and the World Anti-Fascist War. This significant event followed a captivating performance of Shanbei Public School, an original drama produced by RenminU. The forum brought together a diverse audience, including drama performers from RenminU and faculty and students from PolyU, all united in remembrance of this pivotal moment in history.

The forum served as a powerful platform for the youth from both universities to collectively honour the monumental victory of the War of Resistance. This commemoration not only helps to establish a correct understanding of World War II history but also fosters a profound sense of patriotism among the participants.

WANG Yanchao, the leader of the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team and a second-year PhD student in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, passionately shared the history of the Flag-Raising Team. He conveyed the unwavering commitment of its members, who undergo rigorous training to ensure that the national flag is raised high with pride. His heartfelt words resonated deeply with attendees, inspiring a renewed sense of commitment to their national identity.

LAU Tsz Shan, the President of the PolyU Drama Society and an undergraduate student in the Faculty of Humanities, also actively contributed to the discussions. She explored the differences in theatrical expression between Mainland China and Hong Kong, reflecting on the insights she gained from observing the talents of the RenminU drama troupe.

Together, the youth from both institutions engaged in meaningful conversations about the spirit of resistance, artistic creation, and volunteer service, all framed within the context of the 80th anniversary.

Through this exchange forum, they aimed to promote the enduring spirit of the War of Resistance, and actively embrace the responsibilities of today’s youth in this new era, ensuring that the lessons of the past continue to inspire future generations.
