PolyU 85th Anniversary Sportathon

The PolyU 85th Anniversary Sportathon will be held on 17 September 2022 on the PolyU campus.
This event brings people together for a half-day sports fun fair. 

Join us to enjoy the student-athletes performances, sports tryouts, exciting game stalls, and sports competitions!
It is going to be a wonderful family event on a Saturday afternoon!

Registration

  • Online registration opens on 16 August 2022 (Tue) at 9.00 until 18 August 2022 (Thur) at 18.00.

  • Each team must appoint a member as its team leader to submit the online registration. The team leader will be the contact point with the Secretariat for all matters relating to the competition.
  • Limited spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Competition entries are strictly non-transferrable. Participant should ensure that the personal data he or she provides is accurate.

  • If the number of entries exceeds the quota after the deadline of the registration period, SAO will determine the acceptance list by ranking the registered teams according to their submitted times. SAO will inform both successful and unsuccessful teams via email on 19 August 2022.

  • Successful teams will be informed to submit a deposit cheque of HKD$500 payable to “The Hong Kong Polytechnic University”  by the deadline on 23 August 2022 (Tue). The cheque will be returned upon the registration on the event day. If the teams are unable to submit the deposit cheque, the quota will be replaced by the teams on the waiting list.

Eligibility

  • The competition is open solely to PolyU students, alumni, staff and their dependants (aged 15 or above).
  • Participants must provide their PolyU ID number during online registration. PolyU alumni who have PolyU Alumni eCard or Federation of The Hong Kong Polytechnic Alumni Associations (FHKPUAA) Card can register for the event.
  • Each participant may only join one event. There is no restriction on the combination of team member (student, or alumni, or staff, or staff dependant).
  • Participants entering the sports facilities should use the LeaveHomeSafe app and present the Vaccine Pass at the entrance of the sports centre.

Health Screening

  • Participants should take note of their own health condition and consider whether it is suitable for them to register in the sports competition. In case of doubt, please consult a physician prior to registration.
  • All participants must assess their medical history by reviewing the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) prior to participation in the sports competition. This questionnaire is applicable for people aged 15 to 69.
  • For participants aged under 18, the PAR-Q should be signed by their Parents/Guardians.

  • Entries: 16 teams in men’s category and 8 teams in women’s category. Each team may register a maximum of 5 players.
  • Participants: Alumni, Staff, Dependant & Student
  • Registration: Online 
  • Rules of competition: Unless otherwise stated, the rules of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) shall be applied
  • Format: Single knockout system would be used. Each game lasts for 10 mins.
  • Date: 17 Sept 2022 (Sat)
  • Time: 14.00 - 18.30
  • Venue: Main Hall, Kwong On Jubilee Sports Centre
  • Entries: 16 teams in men’s doubles, 8 teams in women’s doubles, and 8 teams in mixed doubles
  • Participants: Alumni, Staff, Dependant & Student
  • Registration: Online 
  • Rules of competition: Unless otherwise stated, the rules of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) shall be applied 
  • Format: Single knockout system would be used. In round of 16 and quarterfinals, a match shall consist of one game of 21 points. In semifinals and finals, a match shall consist of the best of three games of 21 points

  • Time: 14.00 – 18.30
  • Venue: Main Hall, Block X Sports Centre
  • Entries: 8 men's teams only. Each team may register a maximum of 10 players.
  • Participants: Alumni, Staff, Dependant & Student
  • Registration: Online 
  • Rules of competition: Unless otherwise stated, the rules of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA)shall be applied 
  • Format: Single knockout system would be used. The duration of the game shall be two equal periods of 10 minutes and the half-time is 5 minutes. In the case of a draw in full time, the match will be decided by taking of the penalty kick of “sudden death” method until a decision is reached

  • Venue: Fong Shu Chuen Hall, Shaw Sports Complex
  • Entries: 16 teams in men’s doubles, 8 teams in women’s doubles, and 8 teams in mixed doubles
  • Participants: Alumni, Staff, Dependant & Student
  • Registration: Online 
  • Rules of competition: Unless otherwise stated, the rules of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF)
  • Format: Single knockout system would be used. A match shall consist of the best of three games of 11 points
