Dr David Yuen 袁振華博士

Lecturer, Chinese Language Centre at PolyU 香港理工大學中國語文中心講師

Dr Yuen received his PhD at the Research Center for Language and Language Education of Central China Normal University (CCNU). His research interests include teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, Cantonese and Putonghua training. He is the Certificate of Assessor in the National Putonghua Proficiency Test (PSC) and the co-authors of the textbooks- “Business Putonghua 3 edition” and “HuoYong Putonghua”. He is the subject leader of Elementary Cantonese (Taught in English) since 2011. He is the deputy project leader of MOOC Cantonese Language and Culture for Beginners run by PolyU. He is the book reviewer of Talk to Me in Cantonese and Modern Cantonese book 1 to 3 A textbook for global learners.

Apart from the EXCELL programme, PolyU offers a wide array of resources for non-local students to learn Cantonese. These resources include the following:

  1. Credit-bearing Cantonese courses offered by the Chinese Language Centre (For UG students only)
  2. Consultation on learning Cantonese (For UG students only)
  3. A Flipped Classroom for Cantonese Learning (For all students)
  4. An online course namely “Cantonese Language and Culture for Beginners” offered by HKPolyUx (For all students)
