PolyU is committed to providing a campus environment that is nurturing and inclusive. To support this direction, SAO does not only provide a wide array of quality services and programmes for students with special educational needs (SEN), but also provides training and support to empower fellow staff to jointly provide an equitable learning environment for these students.

Training and support

  • Training workshops:
  • Workshops on Supporting Students with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
           
    Key content of the workshops is as follows:
       - Major features of the specified SEN types and its diagnostic criteria
       - Intervention and treatment available for these SEN types
       - How to create a safe and supportive environment for these SEN types
       - Understand the strategies and accommodations for these SEN types

    Workshop 1: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
    Date: 3 October 2025 (Friday)  
    Time: 10.00am – 12.00noon
    Venue: CD302

    Workshop 2: Mental Illness (MI)
    Date: 16 September 2025 (Tuesday)  
    Time: 10.00am – 12.00noon
    Venue: Y301

    Workshop 3: Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
    Date: 25 September 2025 (Thursday)
    Time: 10.00am – 12.00noon
    Venue: Y303

    Workshop 4: Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD)
    Date: 29 September 2025 (Monday)
    Time: 10.00am – 12.00noon
    Venue: Y301

    Workshop 5: Inclusion and Communicating with Students with Visual Impairment (VI), Hearing Impairment (HI) and Physical Impairment (PI)
    Date: 9 October 2025 (Thursday)
    Time: 10.00am – 12.00noon
    Venue: Y303

    These workshops will be conducted face-to-face in English. The facilitator would be Mr Kenneth Chow, registered Educational Psychologist.

    To register, please complete this e-form. You are welcome to join part or all of these workshops. First-come-first-served. A confirmation email will be sent to successful participants in due course. Should you require any special support for joining these workshops, please indicate in the e-form by the aforementioned deadline. 

  • Workshop on Supporting Emotionally Unstable Students

Key content of the workshop is as follow:

- Understand the definitions of students’ emotional crisis in university settings 
- Identify different stage of emotions and respective procedures 
- Understand the de-escalation strategies in stabilising students’ unstable emotion

   Date: 14 October 2025 (Tuesday)
   Time: 10.00 am – 12.00 noon
   Venue: Y301

The workshop will be conducted face-to-face in English. The facilitator would be Mr Kenneth Chow, registered Educational Psychologist.
