Sustainability Young Leader Enrichment Programme 2025/26

Mid Autumn Festival Workshop

In 2025/26, the Academy continued its collaboration with the Engineers Without Borders Hong Kong (EWB-HK) to organise the Sustainability Young Leader Enrichment Programme 2025/26 to nurture future sustainability leaders through two immersive learning experiences, including a visit to the modern green building and an eco-tour about Hong Kong’s green practice.

On 25 October 2025, ExCo members and other students explored cutting-edge green innovations during a visit to The Henderson, the grand award winner of the Hong Kong Green Building Award 2023. This visit included insightful sharing from industry experts, including Prof. Elvis Au, BBS, former Deputy Director of the Environmental Protection Department; Ir Dr Edward Chan, Chairman of EWB-HK; and Mr Bon Lau, Green Building Young Leader of the Hong Kong Green Building Council. Participants then engaged in lively discussions with the speakers and fellow attendees, including Academy alumni and other sustainability leaders, which broadened their understanding of sustainable development.

The eco-friendliness journey continued on 1 November 2025 with visits to GREEN@ISLANDS and HerbSense, a social enterprise operated by the Outlying Islands Women’s Association (OIWA). Students learned about waste management and circular-economy practices in Hong Kong through a hands-on herbal tea workshop. This experience was enhanced by meetings with Mr Allan Chan, President of OIWA and Mr Barry Chan, head of the Sustainability Department, allowing participants to deepen their understanding of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.

Special thanks to Ms Lauren Yang, Vice Chairman of the Urban Sustainability Committee, EWB-HK, who led an engaging group discussion during the journey, and Mr Sam Lai, the Local Project Lead of the Urban Sustainability Committee, EWB-HK, who guided the Ping Shan Heritage Trail tour, for their exceptional facilitation and insightful storytelling. The trail walk offered students a unique perspective on how scientific Feng Shui creates harmony between rural and urban environments.

The Academy remains committed to empowering students to drive meaningful change through sustainability initiatives. Stay tuned for more inspiring activities that will continue to cultivate future leaders.
