From 10th to 16th July 2025, six students from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, including three members of the university’s badminton team, embarked on an exciting adventure at the Fourth “Panda Cup” Youth Badminton Championships and Summer Camp in Chengdu, China. Organised by the Minister of the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technology Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Chinese Badminton Association, this vibrant event brought together 14 teams from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and Sichuan.
These budding athletes showcased their skills on the court, fostering camaraderie and healthy competition. After the matches, PolyU student KONG Siu Hin spoke on behalf of Hong Kong’s youth, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the organisers for creating a valuable platform that allowed students from diverse regions to connect and forge friendships through their shared passion for badminton.
Following the competition, the summer camp unfolded with enriching excursions, including visits to the Sanxingdui Museum, the “Two Bombs, One Satellite” Memorial Museum, the Civil Aviation Flight University of China, and the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. These experiences opened the students’ eyes to China’s ancient history and modern advancements, deepening their appreciation of national development.
Through sport and cultural exploration, the PolyU students not only honed their badminton skills but also solidified their sense of identity and belonging to our Motherland. Their journey in Chengdu was not merely about competition; it was a vibrant celebration of youth, unity, and a shared vision for the future.
