Outstanding Alumni Award of PolyU Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies 2025

The Outstanding Alumni Award aims to give public recognition to outstanding graduates for their professional achievements and significant contributions to the community and their alma mater. We are pleased to announce the following awardees of the Outstanding Alumni Award of PolyU Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies 2025 for their remarkable achievements.   Dr Joseph Lau Yui-yip - Outstanding Senior Alumni Award 2025 Dr Lau is Head of Student Affairs, Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader (Associate in Business – Logistics and Supply Chain Management) at College of Professional and Continuing Education, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Dr Lau has demonstrated exemplary strategic leadership as the head of the PolyU CPCE Student Affairs Office (SAO), consistently advancing the institution’s mission to foster holistic student development. Through his visionary guidance, Dr Lau has spearheaded a comprehensive suite of initiatives spanning six critical domains: (1) Contribution and Services, (2) Counselling Services, (3) Global Exposure, (4) Leadership and Future Skills, (5) Physical Wellness, and (6) Psychological Wellness. These initiatives are thoughtfully designed to empower students, equipping them with the skills, confidence, and resilience needed to make meaningful societal contributions and achieve their personal and professional aspirations. Dr Lau’s impact is particularly evident in his ability to conceptualise and execute high-impact student engagement campaigns that are closely aligned with the College’s long-term strategic objectives. Recognising the importance of a vibrant campus life, he has introduced a series of innovative and inclusive programmes—such as the Sustainable Fashion Show, Singing Contest, Chinese Culture Festival, and Across Life and Death Expo—that have significantly enriched the student experience. These initiatives not only foster a lively and supportive campus atmosphere but also provide students with invaluable opportunities for personal growth, creative expression, and community involvement.   Mr Billy Yeung Wai-piu - Outstanding Young Alumni Award 2025 Mr Yeung began his career with DKSH Hong Kong Limited in 2010 as a Management Trainee and has since advanced to the position of Senior Director of Supply Chain Management for Hong Kong, Macau, and Mainland China. In this role, he oversees comprehensive supply chain operations across these three markets, managing a workforce of over 250 employees and facilities spanning more than 1,000,000 square feet. He also leads the development of customised logistics solutions, with a strong focus on Cross-Border Solutions for potential 3PL clients. Throughout his tenure at DKSH, Mr Yeung has led numerous sustainability and innovation initiatives, including warehouse process modernisation, the introduction of green pallets, digitalisation of ordering systems, and the creation of end-to-end emission tracking solutions.   Prof. Zhang Xiaofei - Outstanding Young Alumni Award 2025 Prof. Zhang is Professor of Information Systems in School of Management, Harbin Institute of Technology. His main research areas include Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI), Electronic Health (eHealth), and Platform Economy. His research has been published in MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, and Information & Management. He has achieved an H-index of 30 based on Google Scholar. Prof. Zhang has won several best paper awards, including European Journal of Information Systems Best Paper Nomination, the ICIS Healthcare IT Best Paper Award and the HICSS Best Paper Nomination Award. He serves as associate editor, editorial board member, and session chair for several international journals and conferences.

Best LMS Capstone Project Prize 2024/25

We are delighted to announce that three groups of LMS undergraduate students were awarded the “Best LMS Capstone Project Prize” in the 2024/25 academic year in recognition of their outstanding performance in capstone projects. All contestants showcased in-depth background research, methodology, implementation and evaluation, along with exceptional leadership and teamwork skills. Company Visit - DHL Central Asia Hub at Hong Kong International Airport

An Empowerment Series organised by The Asian Logistics, Maritime and Aviation Conference (ALMAC), Hong Kong Trade Development Council, offers an exclusive company visit to DHL Central Asia Hub at Hong Kong International Airport. Led by Prof. Anthony Pang, our Associate Professor & Associate Head, this visit provided students with an invaluable opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the aviation logistics sector and strengthen their industry readiness. During the visit, students had the opportunity to explore the state-of-the-art facilities of one of the world's leading logistics providers. They deepened their understanding of cutting-edge developments in air cargo transportation, courier and express services, supply chain management, and e-commerce logistics—learning how DHL efficiently manages high-volume, time-sensitive shipments. The tour also featured a guided walkthrough of the warehouse operations, where students could observe operational processes up close and learn about the logistics management strategies that keep global supply chains moving smoothly. We sincerely thank the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and DHL Central Asia Hub for their generous support and collaboration. Their dedication to nurturing future industry leaders and sharing valuable insights greatly enhances our students' learning experience and inspires the next generation of talent in logistics and supply chain management.

PolyU Info Day 2025: AI and beyond

We are pleased to report that PolyU Info Day was held successfully today, with joint effort by all contributing parties to ensure a total quality experience to our potential students and their families visiting our campus and department just two working days resumed after the severe weather ended on this Wednesday. The full attendance at our programme seminars in lecture theatre ST111, with a max capacity of 270 seats, for both the morning and afternoon sessions shown a clear sign of determination for our future students fully supported by our team of faculty, staff, students and even our alumni who return to their alma mater with our warm welcoming hug and smiles. Our team includes our LMS undergraduate programme leaders — Prof. Anthony Pang, Prof. Xu Zhou, Prof. Jiang Changmin, Dr Patrick Tsang, Ir Prof. T.L. Yip, and Dr Judy Tong — provided detailed introductions to the JS3070 scheme and the four majors within our LMS. We also highlighted the HK$300,000 Emerging Global Leaders Scholarship available to each eligible JUPAS applicant. At our LMS departmental booth on the podium of FJ, student ambassadors, alumni, and students shared valuable insights with visitors. A key feature was the AI demonstration in classroom BC301, where we presented AI Capstone Projects and perspectives from Capstone Project supervisors. This showcased how our LMS programmes integrate AI to enrich students’ academic journeys and prepare them for professional success. In addition, we offered lab tours on the 4th floor of Wing CD, including demonstrations of the ship simulator by Mr Brian Sun, as well as the VR Cave. Current students engaged with prospective students, facilitating informative discussions. Our alumni contributed actively, connecting with current students to strengthen the community and exchange knowledge between generations. We look forward to welcoming these prospective students to the PolyU and LMS community as they advance their careers and pursue their promising futures!  

A Huge Congrats to the Recipients of the Emerging Global Leaders Scholarship (2024-25)

We are thrilled to announce that our UG students Mr Jimmy Cheng (BBA-Scheme Year 1) and Miss Santa Hau (BBA-Scheme Year 1) have been awarded the Emerging Global Leaders Scholarship for the 2024-25 academic year. CIPS Best Student Awards 2024

LMS Students Crowned Champion in 2025 Student Case Competition

In the 2025 Student Case Competition, hosted by APICS Premier Training Partner – DataDevelop, the Winner accolade was awarded to Miss Yiu Tsz-yi, Miss Lu Ka-yin, Miss Li Wenxin, Miss Sheng Jiaqi, and Mr Ko Chun-hin (from left to right in the picture). We would also like to congratulate another team from LMS for winning the Second Runner-Up in the competition: Miss Hannah Chen Kai-yi , Mr Ou Letian, Mr Sun Tianhao, Miss Xu Yingying, and Mr Wang Honglin. Your hard work and passion are greatly appreciated. Dr Jacky Hau coached this accomplished team of five students, who are currently studying in the BBA (Hons) Supply Chain Management & Analytics programme. The student team first joined a half-day pre-event workshop arranged by the host, focusing on Sustainable Innovation for ‘Made in Hong Kong’ Products. Then, all competing teams from various universities were challenged to act as entrepreneurs, crafting business proposals with innovative and sustainable approaches. Our champion team explored and addressed the pressing need for efficient triage services faced by the Hospital Authority, proposing 'I-Triage' - a solution aimed at alleviating the nurse shortage by automating vital sign checks for patients in Accident & Emergency in public hospitals. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the winners and take immense pride in our students' outstanding performance in this open competition.
