Our Bachelor's Degree Scheme offers students the time and flexibility to explore various fields related to construction and environment, helping them make informed decisions about their preferred programme towards the end of their first year of studies and to prepare for professional careers in the construction industry and the environmental field. Undergraduate programmes at the Faculty of Construction and Environment prepare students for professional careers and leadership positions in a range of disciplines. Most of these programmes are accredited/recognised by professional organisations, namely the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) of the United Kingdom, and the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES). All admitted students will embark on a Common Year One curriculum. Towards the end of year one, students can choose their preferred programme through a ranking assessment, which considers a combination of entrance qualification score, Year One GPA, and interview performance.

As a student in the Bachelor's Degree Scheme in Construction and Environment (BDSCE), my first year has been extremely rewarding. I received broad exposure to four disciplinary areas, allowing me to explore the field from multiple perspectives. Through systematic courses and frequent discussions with professors and classmates, I clarified my long-term development goals, which is why I chose BDSCE in the first place.
I have gained a solid foundational knowledge of construction and environmental studies, developed cross-disciplinary analytical skills, and built a balanced understanding that engineering must integrate practical functions and environmental sustainability. This learning journey greatly broadened my vision: I now understand how closely various construction and environmental sectors interact in real projects instead of seeing them as isolated fields.
For prospective applicants, I strongly recommend making full use of BDSCE’s abundant professional resources to explore your interests and strengths. Your future career is a major life decision that requires thoughtful consideration. Stay curious and proactive throughout the exploratory foundation year; this well-rounded learning experience will establish a base for your university studies and career ahead.
