此组合课程设计旨在为学生提供选择主修课程之前探索不同学习领域的时间和机会，丰富学生的学习旅程及体验。让学生于完成首年课程后，能有效地按照个人兴趣、期望和学习需求选择合适的主修课程。相关课程的宗旨及特色介绍可以参考各课程页面。
建设及环境学院的本科课程为学生在一系列专业领域开展职业生涯和担任领导职位做好准备，其中大部分都得到相关专业协会的认证，例如香港工程师学会(HKIE)、香港测量师学会(HKIS)、英国皇家特许测量师学会(RICS)、英国屋宇装备工程师学会(CIBSE)及英国特许土木工程测量师学会（CICES）等。有关专业认可的详细信息，请参阅个别课程／组合课程页面。
所有入读理大建设及环境学院的本科生在入学首年均会修读本学院的一年级共同课程(Common Year 1 Curriculum)。在建立稳固的知识基础后，学生可根据意愿及一年级学业综合评估在完成首年学业后于同一学院内灵活选读主修课程。综合评估准则包括学生入学时的分数、第一学年的学业成绩平均积点(GPA)及面试表现，并须符合相关课程的入读要求。

As a student on the Bachelor's Degree Scheme in Construction and Environment (BDSCE), my first year has been extremely rewarding. I was offered full exposure to disciplines from four departments, allowing me to explore the field from multiple perspectives. Through systematic courses and frequent discussions with professors and classmates, I clarified my long-term development goals, the very reason I chose BDSCE.
During this foundation year, I have gained solid foundational knowledge of construction and environmental studies, developed cross-disciplinary analytical skills, and built a balanced understanding that engineering should integrate practical functions and environmental sustainability. This learning journey greatly broadened my vision: I now see how closely construction and environmental sectors interact in real projects rather than seeing them as isolated fields.
For prospective applicants, I strongly encourage making full use of BDSCE’s abundant professional resources to explore your interests and strengths. Choosing your future career is a critical life decision that requires thoughtful understanding. By staying curious and proactive throughout the exploratory foundation year, you will build a well‑rounded academic base that supports your entire university journey and future career development.
