'Weft' in progress

We are proud to share that Mr. WIJAYA Nikolas Jonathan, our student of the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Quantitative Finance and FinTech, and his teammates won 1st place in the Startup Track at the 48-hour SEAHacks Hackathon, held on 4–5 July 2026.

Nikolas teamed up with two students from the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Mr. Michael Arya Wijaya and Mr. Joseph Berachah, as well as a graduate of The University of Hong Kong. The team competed in the Startup track and built a venture-scale product - Weft, an open-source, privacy-first desktop application designed to help users better manage their personal relationships across messaging platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram. This application organizes conversation history into useful relationship context, including important memories and follow-ups. It can also generate context-aware reply suggestions through machine learning. A key focus of the project is to keep users in control of their own data, with conversations and generated information stored locally on the user’s device.

The team’s project stood out among 25 submitted projects in the competition.

Congratulations to Nikolas and his team on this outstanding achievement!
