Dr Bai Kuang

Research Assistant Professor

白曠博士

Biography

Dr Bai received his B.S. in Applied Mathematics at Lanzhou University in 2013, M.S. in Operations Research and Control Theory at Dalian University of Technology in 2016, and Ph. D in Optimization at University of Victoria in 2020. Currently, Dr Bai works as a Research Assistant Professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Dr Bai’s research area is comprised of optimization and variational analysis, as well as their applications in Economics, Engineering and Statistics. In particular, with collaborators, he has derived the directional versions of many classical constraint qualifications for general mathematical programs. These constraint qualifications can recover their classical counterparts and can serve as sufficient conditions for necessary optimality conditions, existence of error bounds and can guarantee useful calculus rules for generalized subgradients. Meanwhile, he also studied the directional optimality conditions of bilevel programs. His recent interests include studying constraint qualifications and optimality conditions for two-level stochastic programs and bilevel programs, as well as sufficient conditions for the existence of error bounds for structured mathematical programs.

Dr Bai serves as an referee for many research journals in optimization, such as: SIAM Journal on Optimization, Numerical Algorithms, Journal of Global Optimization, Set-valued and Variational Analysis, etc.
