Learning is a lifelong process. In the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), we see the prospect and pleasure of transferring knowledge and as a result, the promotion of lifelong learning plays a crucial part in our mission and vision. As a leading institution, PolyU contributes greatly in the advocacy of continuing education. We create opportunities for people who are passionate enough to get back to school for the sake of pursuing new knowledge and insightful ideas, and we believe in education regardless of learners' age or past. Apart from our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, PolyU offers a wide range of lifelong learning programmes in the College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE) and the Institute for Entrepreneurship (IfE). Both divisions are set up to provide quality education in support of PolyU¡¯s vision to be a leading university that excels in professional education, applied research and partnership for the betterment of Hong Kong, the nation and the world.
With a vision to be a leading self-financing tertiary education institution in Hong Kong, CPCE, a managing unit in charge of the development of lifelong learning in PolyU, was founded in 2002. The two self-financed education units, the Hong Kong Community College (HKCC) and the School of Professional Education and Executive Development (SPEED), offer a full array of higher educational courses that are open to passionate learners of all ages. HKCC focuses on lifelong learning by providing quality sub-degree programmes that meet the changing needs of our community while equipping graduates with multiple skills for further studies or career development. Programmes offered by HKCC cover various academic domains, such as arts, social sciences, business, design and others. Along with the higher diploma programmes of HKCC, PolyU SPEED provides articulation degree programmes in business and other professional fields. SPEED also offers short courses on specialised, professionally oriented subjects such as health and safety or related subjects for lifelong learners.
The establishment of IfE signifies a new phase of PolyU¡¯s promotion of lifelong learning. IfE is committed to forging tighter links between the university and the industry. The provision of professional training services including customized training for corporations, executive development and entrepreneurial development in focused areas exemplifies our mission of transferring knowledge and expertise to the industrial and commercial sectors. By providing consultancy services through the Corporate Development and Training Division (CDT) and the Centre for Professional and Business English (CPBE), IfE plays a major role in developing and managing trainings for business executives, achieving out-of-classroom entrepreneurship education objectives. Our programmes are highly tailor-made to suit the needs of various corporations.
