PolyU offers student exchange program and overseas internship opportunities for students to expand their global network and become global-minded leaders.
PolyU’s professional education model adopts a unique experiential learning approach which comprises of internship, service-learning and overseas student exchange programme. We have a wide variety of local and international leadership and development programmes for a truly transformative education experience – equipping students with the right skills to be socially responsible global leaders of tomorrow.
PolyU is the first tertiary institution in Hong Kong to have incorporated mandatory Work-Integrated Education (WIE) internships into the undergraduate curriculum. This pioneering initiative was introduced in 2005 to enhance the all-round development and professional competence of our students facing an ever-changing and increasingly competitive business environment. To allow all undergraduate students can benefit from work-based learning, the initiative has been made a mandatory graduation requirement starting from the 2005/06 academic year. Apart from the local WIE, PolyU has developed consolidated network with multinational companies, offering overseas and Mainland internships.
PolyU offers internships worldwide, including Hong Kong, overseas countries, including Australia, Canada, Estonia, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Russia and Singapore; as well as mainland China cities and Taiwan.
Internships in overseas countries are rewarding as they are now, more than ever, a key tool for students to gain experience in their respective fields and earn credibility with future employers. Through joining overseas internships, students are able to expand their global perspective and gain real-life industry experience. For those wishing to combine their travel plans with an educational desire to gain career experience, they may consider internships in overseas countries. For those wishing to gain work experiences in local workplace, they may participate in internship programme in Hong Kong. No matter joining local or overseas internships, students can acquire more professional knowledge and specific skills and put them into practice. Also, they have become more confident to deal with future workplace and challenges.
Students are greatly encouraged to take up their WIE internships overseas so as to develop a global outlook. Students joining overseas internships can obtain financial support by applying for Offshore WIE Sponsorship (OWS) administered by Careers and Placement Section.
