The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has embarked on the Education 4.0 (E4.0) revolutionary journey – an initiative to respond to rapid AI advancements and a changing educational landscape. Through E4.0, PolyU is transforming learning and teaching by integrating AI and smart technologies into a student-centred approach that fosters innovation, expands the use of educational technologies, and prepares students for the future.

The Institute for Higher Education Research and Development (IHERD) stands as the central hub for this education transformation at PolyU. We are creating a vibrant research and development ecosystem that positions PolyU as a leading education innovator on the world stage.

Our Structure

IHERD brings together a unique synergy of three teams, Digital Transformation Division (DTD), Education Research Centre (ERC) and Education Development Centre (EDC) that drives educational transformation, from digital adoption and cutting-edge pedagogical research to AI-powered teaching innovations.
