LI Yiran

During my marketing studies, the teaching resources and education system offered by the Management & Marketing (MM) Department enabled me to enhance my professional knowledge. Additionally, the Work Integrated Education provided internship opportunities, at companies such as Tencent and L’Oréal during my time at university. The experience of applying theoretical knowledge from the classroom to business practice gave me a deeper understanding of the marketing field, and the internships made me more confident and capable when looking for a job.

Furthermore, my semester exchange in Taiwan enriched my university life and opened my eyes to the diversity of choices. I realised that the essence of life is to actively explore the world and face future challenges with a positive attitude and confidence.

If I had the opportunity to go back four years, I would tell myself on receiving the PolyU Marketing offer, “Set sail now, because this will show you a greater world”. I am grateful to all the friends and professors I met during my university years and to the MM Department for these four fulfilling and meaningful years. Moving forward, I will continue to work hard!

Zhang Rong Kenny

I am grateful to the university for providing me with outstanding learning opportunities that have fostered my overall growth.

As a Marketing student, I have had the opportunity to minor in Enterprise Computing and participated in courses at Fudan University, Cornell University, and the Vienna University of Economics and Business, expanding my understanding of various fields such as artificial intelligence, business analytics programming, and corporate entrepreneurship. In addition, my event planning internship in Shanghai and my market analysis internship in Jinan have enhanced my practical skills.

As part of my service learning at PolyU, I participated in the “Learning through Providing Eye Care and Vision Health to the Community” project, where I conducted vision screenings for older adults in the community. This highlighted the importance of using my knowledge to benefit others and gave me a sense of well-being from serving the community.

The PolyU’s Marketing programme, and the University’s commitment to general education, have prepared me for the challenges in my professional and personal life.

WU Kefan

The MM programme offers students ample opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills to real-life scenarios through internships, business competitions and networking events. Students are encouraged to participate in all kinds of extracurricular activities, to step out of their comfort zones and to accept every challenge.

My experience on the programme allowed me to focus on my personal development. Despite the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, which prevented most of us from participating in an overseas placement, I was able to take part in an online exchange provided by Fudan University. The experience broadened my horizons, as the course pooled talented students from different educational backgrounds, and further advanced my collaborative and communication skills, which are critical for the development of a future career in management and marketing.

I will never forget the advice of our programme leader, Dr Simon Chan, to embrace lifelong learning and relish the process behind every single experience. My message to all prospective students is to enjoy your time at university because every experience counts.

Zhang Jessica

The Faculty of Business invests in students who will eventually give back to the world. It does this by offering a variety of subjects led by responsible professors and enriching activities, such as work-integrated education and service learning, which nurture the growth of its students into adept professionals.

What the Management programme offers extends far beyond knowledge and skills. Students gain an appreciation for lifelong learning and continuous progress by taking smart advantage of external resources. The most valuable aspect of the course for me was the endless support from my tutors and peers. Prof Wu Liu taught me to follow my heart rather than others’ dreams. And I will always remember Dr Chan’s advice: experience is more precious than academic excellence.

姜梦溪 Jiang Mengxi

When I reflect on my time at university, I feel grateful to have had so many varied opportunities both on and off campus. Most courses on the MM programme require its students to give presentations, which showcase their critical thinking and knowledge of learnt theories to the real business world. Work-integrated education and internship opportunities enable them to step out of their comfort zones and overcome challenges or obstacles logically.

Through my experience on this scheme, I gained invaluable insights and opportunities to network with industry experts. But the biggest take-away for me was having the chance to trial a possible career direction at an early stage. Various training programmes and competitions equip students with the experience they need to become future leaders in their fields.

吴淑慧 Wu Shuhui

Enrolling on PolyU’s MM programme was one of the best and most important decisions that I have ever made. At PolyU I made great friends and learned from patient, attentive and knowledgeable professors. Most importantly, the MM programme helped me to set directions and goals for the rest of my life.

The programme has given me the opportunity to broaden my horizons by experiencing the outside world. I spent two months studying business courses as an exchange student at the University of Cambridge, UK. My time at this world-class university familiarised me with the teaching philosophy and academic atmosphere of British higher education. Returning to the UK for further study is one of my short-term career goals.

As a mainland MM student, I felt well cared for both personally and in my academic life. PolyU provides every student with an academic advisor suited to them, usually an experienced faculty member. Whenever I felt stuck, I turned to my advisor, who was always there to help. I felt like a true member of this community, this university and this programme.

In addition, the programme enables students to step out of their comfort zones by engaging in diverse off-campus activities. Students participate in mandatory internships with support and encouragement from PolyU. In some cases, the department draws on its extensive network to provide students with valuable internship opportunities. For students who find their own internships, the programme provides important guidance on CV editing and interviewing.

Take my own experience as an example. I had the chance to intern at five companies, including Estee Lauder, Bazaar and WBA. Throughout these internships, I received guidance from my teachers and other support from the programme. This helped me to make good use of my time to gain knowledge that cannot be acquired directly at university and put my classroom knowledge into practice. These experiences certainly enhanced my competitiveness in both the job market and the postgraduate applicant pool.

In conclusion, the MM programme helped me to grow and mature into an independent learner with realistic goals, a promising future professional with clear career plans, and a critical thinker with unique insights. I encourage anyone who is interested in business-related subjects to join this programme. You will undoubtedly benefit from studying at PolyU.

Liu Tingxue

“A little gem”. This phrase describes PolyU well. Although the university occupies only a small area of downtown Hong Kong, it provides students with a comprehensive range of high-quality services. Here, I have enjoyed discussions with my professors in class, tried 3D printing in the library, attended lectures on various topics, and sweated in the gym. PolyU has also given me a wealth of opportunities to explore the world and integrate into society. Through the Work-Integrated Education programme, I completed two internships in Shanghai and Spain, which helped me identify my career goals. As part of the Service-learning programme, my classmates and I built wooden houses and bridges for local villagers in Kyoto, satisfying my curiosity about the social value of design. I also took an exchange trip to Sweden, where I made friends from all over the world and became more independent.

My four years of university life are now coming to an end. I am very grateful for the opportunities provided by the university, and I thank the MM team for always taking the time to help when I encountered difficulties. I will never forget my time at PolyU.
