Mr. Calvin Yuen, Assistant Vice President, Food & Beverage, Shangri-La International Hotel Management Ltd, was proposed by Mr. Man Zhuo, our 2025 graduate of Master in Global Hospitality Business. Mr. Zhuo stated in his nomination:

“Calvin is a warm, light, and funny person. He has a very positive and encouraging mentor. He puts a lot of time and effort into helping us and understands mentorship is not only about reaching your goals but finding and connecting you with people around that can help you find your way. I was always interested in restaurant development. Even though, I did not have any idea how it would start, he instead took us to experience and meet other professionals or other people to learn more. Experiencing hospitality is also a way to help us immerse more into the industry and help us see what is available and what we can do.

More than a mentorship I think it has built a long-lasting friendship with all the mentees and likewise between the mentees. We did not get too many meetings with Calvin, but he was always checking on us and was up to date of whatever we were up to. It was an honor to have a very kind and likeminded person. I think Calvin has benefited from this mentorship by connecting with more nationalities that are probably not too common. This connection will also allow him to expand his horizons and explore new cultures. At the same time, we both benefited from each other, as I was also able to help him by talking to someone that needed more information about MGH.

Overall, I believe Calvins’ mentorship approach allowed us to learn, connect, and have fun in the process. I nominate him for his ability to connect and find other ways of helping mentees. I am very thankful to have had him as a mentor. I know that this is a connection that I will have for life.”
