Interdisciplinary Research Support

The PAIR Central Office provides comprehensive administrative support and strategic development initiatives, such as the PAIR Fellowship Scheme, PAIR Advanced Education Programme, PAIR International Collaboration Scheme, and PAIR Seed Funding Scheme for Joint Research Projects with Leading Universities, etc., for its interdisciplinary Research Institutes (RIs) and Research Centres (RCs).

Interdisciplinary Research Measurement

Performing internal management, monitoring and quality assurance to support RIs and RCs in achieving the research and development goals of PAIR and PolyU, while ensuring full compliance with related rules and regulations.

These include but are not limited to: drafting, refining and implementing PAIR rules and regulations and other guidelines; reviewing documentations submitted from RIs and RCs (e.g., resource requests, research proposals, annual progress reports, renewals for each three-year operating cycle, etc.); managing research funding databases of PAIR and its RIs and RCs.; and tracking, measuring and recognising interdisciplinary successes at PAIR (e.g., news about awards and funding, PAIR members named among international recognitions).  For exemplary cases of successful interdisciplinary research at PAIR, please refer to the PAIR Annual Reports.

Talent Promotion and Career Development
Talent Promotion and Career Development
Planning and implementing new schemes for driving strategic development and interdisciplinary research at PAIR, while supporting career growth for research and administrative personnel. Key initiatives include:
  • PAIR Fellowship Scheme — Selects a limited number of renowned scholars from top universities worldwide annually as PAIR Distinguished Fellows, Senior Fellows and Fellows to contribute to the university, PAIR and its RIs and RCs.
  • Recruitment and Appointments — Handles hiring for various positions (e.g., research and project personnel, student assistants, administrative staff, scientific officers) to support the sustainable growth of PAIR and PolyU’s interdisciplinary research.
  • Performance Appraisal — Coordinates with the Human Resources Office (HRO) to handle the annual appraisal exercise and promotion cases at PAIR, in line with PolyU’s guidelines.
  • Visitor Management — Manages enrolment of incoming visitors in relevant immigration facilitation schemes for short-term activities at PolyU.

Event Organisation  ManagementEvent Organisation & Management

Hosting PAIR’s signature events, including Distinguished LecturesSeminars, Researchers' Corners, Salons; co-organising large-scale scholarly and public events (e.g., conferences, summits, research showcase exhibitions); providing support for events organised by PAIR's RIs and RCs; and coordinating delegation visits to encourage interdisciplinary research and collaborations within and outside PolyU.

Marketing  PromotionMarketing & Promotion

Planning, developing, coordinating and executing marketing activities; managing online and offline publicities; supporting the day-to-day marketing and communication needs of RIs and RCs — including website development, content editing); and serving as a communication bridge between RIs and RCs, other PolyU units and external parties.

PAIR’s promotion channels include: website, global and mainland social media platformspublications (e.g., newslettersannual reports, posters, brochures and leaflets), videos (e.g., research impact video series and corporate videos), mass mailings, event promotions, community and scholarly engagement, as well as press engagement.

These channels enable PAIR to reach the PolyU community (e.g., academic and research staff, students, alumni), peers (e.g., top scientists, academics) and partners (e.g., industrialists, government units, supporters, donors).

Other Supports

Provides editorial and writing assistance for documents, research proposals, and a wide range of online and offline publicity materials for PAIR Central Office and its RIs and RCs. Information technology support includes onsite IT support for events; website management; service sourcing and procurement; and liaison with Information Technology Services Office (ITS) and external parties to ensure smooth IT operations at PAIR.

PAIR actively collaborates with other strategic pillars at PolyU to advance interdisciplinary research, foster knowledge transfer, and drive research impact. Key collaborating offices include:

PAIR also maintains strong partnerships with PolyU State Key Laboratories (SKLs), Chinese National Engineering Research Centres (CNERCs), and Mainland Translational Research Institutes (MTRIs). By leveraging the expertise and infrastructure of these national and regional centres, PAIR reinforces PolyU’s role in advancing impactful research and cross‑border knowledge transfer while enhancing Hong Kong’s position as a hub for innovation and technology.
