Programme Aims
This programme is designed to equip students with knowledge about Chinese history and culture, as well as personal skills that they can apply while pursuing their careers and contributing to governments, economies and societies in Hong Kong, greater China and the rest of the world. The general aim of the programme is to educate and train students to become individuals who are
-
strongly committed to self-cultivation and community welfare;
-
culturally enriched, with effective communication skills;
-
respectful of the rule of law;
-
socially responsible; and
-
observant of business ethics and business common sense.
Specifically, graduates of this programme will be able to
-
write lucidly in modern Chinese and English for both general communication and administrative and business purposes;
-
speak fluent Putonghua Chinese and English in administrative, business and everyday situations;
-
know the habits and social customs of people in Hong Kong and other places in China;
-
interact in a socially appropriate manner with people from all walks of life;
-
understand global trends, opportunities, cultural differences and social development needs in local, national and global contexts and articulate an understanding of Chinese history and culture to people from various backgrounds;
-
make judgements based on a solid grounding in Chinese history and culture in various contexts, such as government policy, institutional development and solutions to social and cultural problems, and accept responsibilities as professionals and citizens to society, their country and the world;
-
apply their background in Chinese history and culture to various areas in a range of specialisations, such as posts in government, business and NGOs, as entry-level professionals; and
-
demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit and skills in their work, including the discovery and use of opportunities and experimentation with novel ideas.
Medium of Instruction
- Chinese (Putonghua) & English
All admitted students will embark on a common Year One curriculum. Towards the end of Year One, students will decide whether to continue with their initial choice or switch to another choice within the Faculty. Those who wish to switch will need to participate in a competitive process through a ranking assessment, which considers a combination of entrance qualification score, Year One GPA and interview performance.
