This programme provides students with a well-rounded business education and an opportunity to specialise in accounting. Students are provided with an integrated academic foundation for careers as accountants with the required competencies, independence of mind, objectivity and ethical awareness.

BBA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance

The aim of this programme is to exploit the synergy between accounting and finance and prepare students to become competent accountants with a sound knowledge of finance.

The highly practical programme emphasises the application of professional finance and investment knowledge, together with hands-on experience of innovative financial technologies, to address the challenges faced by modern finance and investment professionals.

Programme Characteristics

Our highly qualified academic staff share their business experience and research findings with students. Students are able to apply what they have learned through internships.

Our programmes integrate the latest technological knowledge related to business into the curriculum. New concepts such as fintech and big data are included in selected accounting and finance subjects.

Exchange opportunities

Subject to availability, BBA students can spend one semester studying at another university overseas or in mainland China, with any credits accrued counting towards their PolyU degree.

Work-Integrated Education (WIE)

To graduate, every student must complete 100 hours (3 training credits) of WIE. The School offers opportunities for students to work in firms in Hong Kong, Mainland China, or overseas during either the spring semester or over the summer. These and other forms of work experience count towards the WIE requirement.

Characteristics of Scheme-based Admission

All admitted students will embark on a Common Year One curriculum. Towards the end of year one, students can decide whether to continue with their initial choice or switch to another choice within the Faculty. Those who wish to change to another choice need to join a competitive process through a ranking assessment, which considers a combination of entrance qualification score, Year One GPA, and interview performance.

This offers students approximately one year to identify their area(s) of interest and career aspirations, which facilitates their Major programme selection.

The decision to admit a student to a Major programme will be made by the School in consideration of the student’s preference and overall GPA from Year One. Students will be asked to rank their choice of Major programme (in order of preference) during Semester 2 of Year One for the School’s consideration and approval.

Student Message

Reflecting on the past three years at the School of Accounting & Finance, I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunities and growth this journey has brought me. Studying Accounting and Finance has not only deepened my understanding of the financial world but also opened doors I never imagined—from internships at top firms to case competitions and leadership roles.

Among the highlights were the CGMA Global Business Challenge, where our team was crowned Hong Kong Champion and North Asia First Runner-Up, and the CFA Institute Research Challenge, where we placed Second Runner-Up in Hong Kong. Through these experiences—and with tremendous support from dedicated AF professors—I developed both technical skills such as financial modelling and industry analysis, as well as essential soft skills like critical thinking, public presentation, and time management.

Joining student organizations like AF Academy was another turning point. I started as a member and later became Vice President, where I organized career talks and networking events to support fellow students. These experiences not only strengthened my leadership but also helped me build lasting friendships and a strong professional network.

My time at the School of Accounting & Finance has been transformative, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a dynamic and rewarding university experience.

WANG Fangyu, Fiona

Studying at School of Accounting and Finance has been a truly transformative experience for me.  The curriculum is thoughtfully designed to bridge theory and practice, ensuring that the knowledge I have gained is not only academically enriching but also highly applicable in the real world.  Through hands-on projects, and internships, I have been able to apply classroom concepts to solve practical challenges, which has greatly enhanced my confidence and skill set.

The faculty members are experts in their fields and are always willing to offer guidance, making the learning environment both supportive and inspiring.  The diverse student community has also broadened my perspectives, allowing me to learn from peers with different backgrounds and cultures.

Beyond academics, the university offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities and resources that have enriched my university life.  I have developed valuable friendships and networks that I believe will last a lifetime.

I am grateful for the opportunities and support provided by School of Accounting and Finance, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking an education that truly prepares you for the professional world.

KHAN Hassam

When I reflect on my four years of university study, I feel very grateful for the fantastic springboard that PolyU provided me. This is the place where I learnt, grew and made huge progress in both my academic and personal development.

Information-rich lectures, workshops and seminars equipped me with essential academic knowledge. Group projects taught me how to present my ideas clearly and confidently and how to cooperate with others. They made me realise the importance of teamwork and collaboration. The huge variety of student associations and hall activities gave me numerous opportunities to make friends with international students and expose me to the cultures of the world.

I stepped out of my comfort zone and accomplished things I didn't expect. On top of all that, PolyU enlightened me to know more about the world, not only through textbooks, but also through hands-on experiences.

TAO Shiyu, Anna

I do appreciate that our school pays significant attention and offers diversified opportunities for students to cultivate their sense of social responsibility through Service Learning and other student associations. I participated in voluntary teaching trips several times, during which I shared my knowledge and personal experiences with students in the underprivileged areas in mainland China. Applying what I have learned and contributing to the community makes me feel a strong sense of achievement, making it one of the most unforgettable experiences in my life.

Through the experiences at PolyU, I have gained all-round development, both mentally and technically, which makes me more confident to face difficulties in the future.

WU Hanxiao

During my studies at PolyU, I have always been encouraged and motivated to achieve outstanding academic performance.

PolyU and my school offer renowned resources in various aspects, including accounting, finance, marketing and leadership, which are essentially important not only for my academic improvement but also for my personal development. PolyU also provides me with different options to plan my future development. After enjoying the first-class teaching and learning resources in PolyU, I can have the opportunity to further pursue my master’s degree or start my professional career in the industry.

Apart from the academic resources, PolyU also gives a wide range of chances to me to experience and explore the real-world business practices. In 2019, I participated in a business competition held by PolyU and Dale Carnegie Training, which strongly improved my analytical skills and furnished my market insight. In the CFA Institute Research Challenge in 2021, I was selected to be one of the four members to represent PolyU to compete with students from other universities in Hong Kong and all over the world, and this experience effectively broadened my horizon and eventually helped me set my career target after graduation.
