The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has actively expanded its international and Chinese Mainland partnership networks, leveraging its strengths in research and talent cultivation to address global and local development needs. Dr LAM Tai-fai, PolyU Council Chairman and Prof. Jin-Guang TENG, PolyU President, led a delegation to Fuzhou in Fujian Province yesterday and met with Mr ZHOU Zuyi, Fujian Provincial Party Committee Secretary and Director of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of Fujian Province for in-depth discussion on strengthening PolyU collaboration with local institutions and industry, fostering technology transfer and commercialisation, and nurturing talent.

Dr Lam Tai-fai stated that PolyU will leverage its disciplinary and interdisciplinary strengths to closely align with Fujian's industrial and innovation needs, deepening industry-academia-research collaboration, and promoting technology transfer and commercialisation of research outcomes. The University will also promote the joint establishment of the Patriotic Education Base, cultivating professionals with a strong sense of national pride and a global perspective. As the first research institute established by PolyU beyond the Greater Bay Area, the PolyU-Jinjiang Technology and Innovation Research Institute has become a paradigm of cooperation between Fujian Province and Hong Kong. Upholding the ethos of “rooted in Jinjiang, serving Fujian and contributing to the Nation”, the Institute injects impetus into the development of New Fujian and contributes to the national goal of building China into a leading country in technology and talent.

Mr Zhou Zuyi expressed his gratitude for PolyU’s long-standing and steadfast support for Fujian’s development and provided an overview of the Province’s distinctive characteristics and development trends. He noted that Fujian combines the distinctive strengths of red culture, green ecology and blue ocean with its role as a major province for overseas Chinese affairs, demonstrating strong momentum in economic and social development. Fujian promotes comprehensive high-quality development and strives to be at the forefront of Chinese-style modernisation; it welcomes Hong Kong universities to actively participate in this broader development effort. He hopes that, building upon the solid foundation of existing cooperation, both parties will further deepen collaboration in technological innovation and strengthen exchanges in talent cultivation, thereby achieving complementary advantages and mutually beneficial development.
