Biography
Prof. Fei (Faye) Hao obtained her Ph.D. from the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She has served as a Visiting Scholar at the Conrad N. Hilton College (2021–2022) and the University of Surrey (2019). Her research, under the overarching theme of “Technology for Humanity,” is organized around two pillars: Intelligent Hospitality, which explores how digital technologies—such as AI, contactless systems, avatars, robotics, and the metaverse—reshape service design, operational resilience, and guest experience; and Human Flourishing in the Digital Age, which focuses on promoting dignity, equity, and well-being through inclusive hospitality innovations.
Recognized as one of the Top 2% most-cited scientists globally (Stanford/Elsevier ranking), Prof. Hao has published over 40 peer reviewed journal articles in leading outlets such as Tourism Management, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, and Annals of Tourism Research, accumulating more than 1,800 Google Scholar citations. Her research has been supported by 21 competitive grants totaling over HKD 27 million (approximately USD 2.83 million), funded by major public bodies including the Research Grants Council, University Grants Committee, and Innovation and Technology Commission, as well as through strategic collaborations with industry partners.
She currently serves as Coordinating Editor of IJCHM, Guest Co-Editor of APJTR, and Editorial Board Member of Tourism Review. Prof. Hao is the Programme Leader of the MSc/PgD in AI in Hospitality (launching 2026/27). In recognition of her scholarly contributions, she received the 2024 SHTM Research Excellence Award and the School Award for Outstanding Achievement at the School Board level. In parallel with her academic work, Prof. Hao has delivered executive training on AI in hospitality for organizations including the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), Hong Kong Hotels Association, H World Group, and Rosewood Hotel Group. She has also delivered keynotes, invited talks, and guest lectures across Asia (China, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, South Korea), Europe (United Kingdom, Austria), and North America (United States).
