Pedagogical Fidelity in GenAI: Designing and Evaluating Embodied Conversational Agents for L2 Language Learning

Description of thesis research:
I am researching the potential of Generative AI and Virtual Reality to revolutionize language acquisition. My focus is on moving beyond text-based chatbots to create Embodied Conversational Agents (ECAs) with distinct personalities and teaching strategies.
Using game engine and real-time rendering technologies, I will develop and evaluate ECAs that exhibit diverse behaviors. My goal is to understand how these AI-driven behaviors influence learner engagement and performance in spoken L2 practice.
