Title of thesis

The Effectiveness of Figurative Framing: Metaphor and Hyperbole in Hotel Web Pages

Description of thesis research

My research project will first show how figurative frames (metaphor and hyperbole) contribute to creating a positive image on luxury hotel web pages in Asia and the Pacific, which are a popular travel destination, by taking into consideration hyperbole and the conceptual mappings of metaphors. Secondly, it will investigate the effects of figurative frames on the viewer’s attitude and opinion through psycholinguistic experiments. It will expand the Framing Theory by testing addressees’ reactions toward the texts. Based on experimental results, the study will offer practical implications for luxury hotel managers and website designers who can apply the findings to improve the quality of hotel websites and attract more guests.
