Student-Athlete Learning Support and Admission Scheme

PolyU has all along been supportive to sports talents and has introduced the Outstanding Sportsmen Recommendation Scheme (OSRS) since 1998 to give due recognition to applicants with outstanding achievements in sports in the admission selection process. To take a step further, PolyU has joined the Student-Athlete Learning Support and Admission Scheme (SALSA) initiated by the UGC (as a sub-scheme of OSRS). The SALSA Scheme aims to provide opportunities for student-athletes who are eligible to represent Hong Kong in regional or international competitions with remarkable achievements in sports to pursue their undergraduate studies at PolyU.

Admission Criteria and Eligibility

There is no minimum academic or age entrance requirement for the SALSA Scheme. The suitability of an applicant is assessed based on his/her sport talents, interests, future plans, commitment and potential to complete the programme successfully.

This scheme opens for local senior current elite athletes who satisfy the following criteria:

  1. nominated for admission by Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI); or of a recognised National Sports Association (NSA) and has achieved Elite Vote (EV) Point 3 or above according to the EV Level of Elite Athletes; and
  2. eligible to represent Hong Kong in competitions that are sanctioned by the respective international federation; and
  3. have satisfactory performance in selection interview.

For applicants who have submitted application via the Outstanding Sportsmen Recommendation Scheme (OSRS) for 2022/23 admissions exercise earlier, those eligible candidates will be considered automatically by the SALSA Scheme. No further application is required.
