The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) announced today the appointment of Professor Ben Young to the post of Vice President (Student Affairs) [VP(SA)] with effect from 21 December 2018.
Professor Young is currently the Associate Dean of the Graduate School, Associate Dean for Teaching and Learning – Taught Postgraduate Program of Faculty of Engineering and Master of the Graduate House of The University of Hong Kong (HKU). He is also the Professor of Structural Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering in HKU.
With rich and extensive experience in student development as well as promoting internationalization in university, Professor Young has contributed significantly to the nurturing of students particularly in the areas of personal ethics, intercultural understanding, global citizenship and communications. He has strong commitment to internationalization and has represented the Graduate School of HKU to champion various related programmes.
As VP(SA), Professor Young will oversee the development and execution of institutional policies and plans in the areas of student development and culture promotion. He will also lead the effort to establish connections and foster academic collaborations with leading universities and strategic partners in overseas countries. Key functional units including Culture Promotion and Events Office, Dean of Students Office and International Affairs Office will be under his purview.

Professor Young received BSc, BEng and PhD degrees from the University of Sydney, Australia in 1991, 1993 and 1998, respectively. With remarkable achievements in teaching and research, he has received several teaching and research awards.
