Miss Ip Sik Yan Pinky, who is a graduate student in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE), participated in the Supply Chain and Logistics Management Innovation Project Competition 2017, organized by Department of Supply Chain and Information Management, Hang Seng Management College, and the Final Year Project Competition 2016-2017, organized by the IEEE (Hong Kong) Computational Intelligence Chapter respectively, together with other contestants from local Universities. After keen competitions, Pinky was awarded the Champion and the Second Runner-up at the two competitions on 7 July 2017 and 26 August 2017 respectively.

Pinky, who graduated from the BSc (Hons) in Logistics Engineering and Management (LEM) this summer, received the award of the Champion and the Second Runner-up with her individual project entitled “Study of Physical Activity to Improve Functional Abilities of the Elderly”, which was supervised by Dr W.H. Ip and Dr C.H. Wu.

With the problem of population ageing and the policy of “Ageing in Place” in Hong Kong, the student project develops a tailor-made and preliminary exercise program for the elderly to suit their needs and functional abilities on balance training, so as to lower the risk of fall. The performance was validated in terms of accuracy, technical feasibility and safety through extensive laboratory and on-site tests.

The Final Year Project Competition 2016-2017 is an annual event organized by the IEEE (Hong Kong) Computational Intelligence Chapter, and is open to all final year undergraduates who are studying in a tertiary institution in Hong Kong, with their individual or group project in an area of computational intelligence. It aims to promote computational intelligence among students in Hong Kong. The Supply Chain and Logistics Management Innovation Project Competition 2017 organized by Department of Supply Chain and Information Management, Hang Seng Management College aims to encourage undergraduate students in the innovation of intelligent and applicable solutions for supply chain, logistics and information management.
