Summary

In a rapidly changing world, China’s distinctive diplomatic approach continues to shape global dynamics with vision and determination. The thematic seminar will featuring insightful lectures by two distinguished former ambassadors from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. They will share their expertise and shed light on the economic trends in the Asia-Pacific region and local cooperation between China and the United States. This distinguished event, jointly hosted by The Confucius Institute of Hong Kong, the Research Centre for Chinese History and Culture, and the Mainland Development Office, is one of the flagship events of this year’s PolyU Chinese Culture Festival, which launched in March. The seminar aims to deepen understanding of China’s foreign affairs, as well as to explore the challenges and opportunities the country faces in the field of diplomacy.

Keynote Speaker

Ambassador Zhan Yongxin: Exploring the Current Global Landscape and Trends in Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation

 

Ambassador Zhan has a Bachelor's degree in economics from Peking University and a Master's degree in international economic relations from China Foreign Affairs University. He served as Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the State of Israel, Director-General of the Department of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Commissioner of the Commissioner's Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong SAR, Deputy Director-General of the Policy Planning Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Counsellor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Canada. Ambassador Zhan is now the Chair of the China National Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation.

Ambassador Huang Ping: The Challenges, Opportunities and Way Forward in Local Cooperation Between China and the United States


Ambassador Huang earned his Bachelor’s degree in science from East China Normal University, Master’s degree in arts from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and Master of Public Administration from the Chinese Academy of Governance and Peking University. He served as Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in New York (Ambassadorial Rank), Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Zimbabwe, Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Chicago, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Mayor of Shaoxing City in Zhejiang Province, Counselor and Consul General of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Canada, and Third Secretary of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the United States. Ambassador Huang is now the Vice President of China-US People's Friendship Association.
