Engaging Students with Clickers

Engaging students in small and large classes by asking a question with “Clickers” has become an increasingly popular and effective pedagogical supplement to lecturing at the PolyU.

There will be two sessions this summer looking at how clickers can be used and applied to enhance teaching and learning. The workshops will involve hands-on activities as well as demos by guest speakers.

1.Hands-on Workshop with Common Tools @ PolyU

Facilitator: Green Luk(EDC), Laura Zhou(EDC), Indie Chung(EDC), Adam Forrester(ELC), Fridolin TING(AMA)
Date: 25 Aug 2016
Time: 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM

Using clickers is a powerful way to promote active learning for large and small classes. It allows both teachers and students to communicate their knowledge and understanding of content. This workshop will introduce four common Clickers tools being adopted on campus for learning and class engagement.

Come to this hands-on session to give them a try! BYOD - Please bring along your own mobile device (e.g. smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc.) to experience how these systems work.

2.Using Peer Instruction with Mobile Devices

Facilitator: Laura Zhou(EDC), Indie Chung(EDC), Green Luk(EDC), Kevin CHAN(APSS), Valentina CHAN(CBS)
Date: 30 Aug 2016
Time: 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM
Venue: TU411

How do you effectively use “Clickers” to create an active learning class for your students? What is the “right” pedagogy to know and adopt even before having any knowledge of all these popular tools? If you are interested in these questions and believe like many others that “Pedagogy is the driver, technology is the accelerator”, please come and join us in this second clickers workshop. In this workshop, we’ll bring you:

  • Peer instruction (PI): an evidence-based, interactive teaching method which is believed to be one of most effective pedagogies to make use of clickers
  • A hands-on demo and tips for implementing PI
  • Real-life teaching case sharing by experienced teachers
