Rubrics are often designed by teachers to assess students’ performance. However, students usually find a ‘chasm’ between reading rubrics and understanding them.

  • How to help your students better understand the criteria and standards depicted in rubrics and create deeper engagement with the assessment task using rubrics?

  • How can rubrics help bridge the chasm between explicit and tacit knowledge, especially concerning standards?

  • How to overcome administrative and organizational problems in co-constructing rubrics with students?

Join this session to explore the idea of co-creating rubrics with students and how it helps address the above questions. Dr Alan Urmston will introduce the pedagogical background of developing rubrics with students. Dr Eric Ho will share his first-hand experience of developing rubrics with his students, the challenges he faced, as well as the benefits brought to learning, teaching and assessment.
