Overview

This programme is designed to equip potential candidates for Teaching Assistantships with the skills to get started in supporting classroom teaching and enhancing student learning.

The programme consists of four online modules: "Supporting Learning and Teaching at PolyU", "English for Instructional Purposes: Interacting, Eliciting and Questioning", "Marking and Grading" and "Conducting Tutorials". Please refer to the sections below for the schedule and details of the modules.

Issuance of Certificates

A Certificate of Attendance will be given to participants who have completed all modules and finished all online assignments.

Online Asynchronous Modules
Supporting Learning and Teaching at PolyU This module discusses the roles and responsibilities of teaching assistants at PolyU. It provides ideas and tips for TAs to contribute to a positive environment in the ever-changing higher education sector. 6 hrs
English for Instructional Purposes: Interacting, Eliciting and Questioning This module focuses on three key features of English for Instructional Purposes: interacting, eliciting and questioning. There will be exercises and activities relating to the use of English as the main language of classroom management to foster student interaction and effective learning.
Marking and Grading This module introduces the ways of conducting different types of tutorial, including problem-solving tutorials, case-study based tutorials. It also discusses related issues and concerns.
Conducting Tutorials This module helps participants to grade according to criteria and give feedback to help students learn.

A Synchronous session (briefing) is conducted via Blackboard Collaborate

Modules have required surveys and tests at the end to track completion.
