Winner of the President's Award for Excellent Performance and Achievement in Teaching 2003/04

Dr Jenny C.C. Chung, Assistant Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, is honoured for her excellent performance and achievements in Teaching. Since joining the University in February 1994, Dr Chung has been very proactive in pursuing innovative teaching methodologies. Feeling that conventional teaching-learning methodology is inadequate for students to learn actively and to think critically, Dr Chung has practised Problem-based Learning (PBL) for the B.Sc. (Hons) programme in Occupational Therapy since 1998. Dr Chung has also adopted another innovative teaching approach – Experiential Learning – in which students are given the opportunity to practise relevant skills of clinical reasoning, communication, problem-analysis and goal-setting. Dr Chung has been active in research into teaching/learning practices. Over the last 10 years, she has successfully applied for six grants either as Principal Investigator or Co-investigator. Dr Chung was a pioneer in developing four websites to enhance student learning, with the first one dating back to 1995-1997, which was among the earliest of its kind in the University. One of the websites, which was jointly developed with the School of Nursing, was awarded the 2001 Computer-based Public Education Award by the Honor Society of Nursing, Simga Theta Tau International. As the Chairman of the Departmental Teaching and Learning Committee since 2001, Dr Chung has been developing strategies to enhance the quality of teaching and learning processes in accordance with the departmental and University ethos. Dr Chung is well liked by her students and has consistently received high Student Feedback Questionnaire scores. She was awarded the departmental outstanding teaching award in 2002 for her excellence in teaching. As a testimony to her teaching achievements, Dr Chung was invited to speak in workshops organized by the Education Development Centre (EDC) on teaching and learning activities. Dr Chung is a committed, enthusiastic and competent academic who is admired by her students, appreciated by her colleagues and well recognized by the clinical community in Hong Kong.
