I teach courses on data analytics for future humanities-related professions like teaching, research, marketing etc. This is an increasingly important area with PolyU’s introduction of the X+AIDA scheme. Many students are not initially familiar with basic concepts (e.g., regression, clustering) as well as software (e.g., Python), so I make ample use of metaphors/analogies not only to teach, but also to get students to construct/extend their own analogies to facilitate knowledge consolidation and transfer.
