Remarks
Early applications are strongly encouraged.Aims and Characteristics
The biopharmaceutical industry is at the forefront of medical innovation, offering transformative therapies that address unmet medical needs. As this sector continues its rapid evolution, there's a pressing demand for professionals adept in the complexities of biopharmaceutical development and commercialization. This program aims to bridge the current educational gap, providing a comprehensive curriculum that merges scientific, business, regulatory, and ethical aspects of the biopharmaceutical landscape.
This dual degree programme is a collaboration with Nanyang Technological University for offering a 1+1 taught postgraduate dual degree programme, namely MSc in Biopharmaceutical Development and Commercialization (生物醫藥研發及產業化理學碩士) by PolyU and MSc in Biomedical Data Science (生物醫學數據科學理學碩士) by NTU.
Programme Aims
Our mission is to empower professionals to lead the digital transformation of the biopharmaceutical industry. The programme aims to:
- Integrate Two Critical Disciplines: Merge the study of biopharmaceutical development with cutting-edge biomedical data science to produce graduates with a rare and highly valued dual skillset.
- Accelerate Medical Innovation: Teach students how to use data analytics and AI to speed up the journey from laboratory bench to patient bedside.
- Navigate Complex Ecosystems: Provide a roadmap for maneuvering through the scientific, legal, and financial hurdles inherent in bringing new drugs to market.
- Instill Ethical Leadership: Foster a deep sense of responsibility regarding patient safety, data privacy, and ethical standards in medical research.
- Connect Asia to the World: Leverage the strengths of PolyU and NTU to provide a unique perspective on the biotech markets in the Greater Bay Area, Southeast Asia, and beyond.
Upon Successful Completion (Intended Learning Outcomes)
Graduates will emerge as versatile professionals ready to tackle industry challenges. They will be able to:
- Synthesize Science and Strategy: Evaluate the scientific merit of new biologics while simultaneously assessing their business potential and patentability.
- Harness the Power of Big Data: Utilize computational biology, statistics, and data visualization to solve complex problems in genomics and personalized medicine.
- Manage the Product Lifecycle: Oversee the progression of a drug candidate through pre-clinical testing, human trials, regulatory submission, and final product launch.
- Navigate Global Regulations: Interpret and apply regulatory guidelines from major health authorities to ensure compliance and successful product approval.
- Drive Interdisciplinary Success: Act as the vital link between R&D scientists and commercial teams, translating technical data into business value.
