Technology impacts on learning and teaching: Green Assessment and Smart e-Grading

Facilitators: Bruce Li (AF), Green Luk (EDC)
Date: 03 Oct 2019
Time: 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM
Venue: TU411

eAssessment may be perceived as an effective solution yet effort is required to adopt it. While technologies become more and more easy to use, the hurdle towards adopting eAssessment or e-Grading has been significantly reduced. Balancing the gains and losses, you may find if it is worth exploring to see if there is an e-solution for your assessment needs.

In the first part of this workshop, an academic will share his experience in adopting an eAssessment solution – Respondus Lock Down Browser – in one of his subjects in the previous academic year. He will demonstrate:
- planning, preparation, implementation and finalizing a subject
- greening the paper-based materials into the eAssessment platform -- LMS (Learning Management System)
- enhancing student engagement during the transformation
- considering the cost and benefits

In the second part of the workshop, another tool called Gradescope will be demonstrated. Owing to the nature of some subjects, students are required to write mathematical formulas or draw diagrams to present the idea during an assessment. With Gradescope, students will still handwrite their examinations with papers while teachers can take advantage of digitizing the assessment and save time on grading and in class by improving consistency and transparency, etc.

Come and join us in this workshop to start remedying your e-assessment and e-grading and to share your experiences.

This activity is jointly organised by the CoP on Technology-enhanced Teaching and Learning and EDC.

EDC is going green! Bring your own cup to enjoy complimentary beverages.
