At the Tianjin Medical University eye hospital, I had a month to observe how the ophthalmologists diagnose and manage various eye diseases. Some particular experiences stand out.

First, TMU adopted a wide variety of myopia control choices. They used atropine, spectacle lenses, ortho-K, and red light therapy. Additionally, the doctors also utilise traditional Chinese medicine. Patients from different regions may have different preferences for management styles. In Hong Kong, some patients may prefer TCM as additional or early management. It reminds me of the importance of multidisciplinary cooperation in providing optimal patient treatment.

Besides, we also exchanged our culture. A campus tour was arranged to understand the history of Tianjin Medical University. We also had hands-on experience with Chinese calligraphy. Our conversations with the local doctors ranged from Hong Kong’s golden-age movies and music to current trends and artists, allowing us to appreciate the unique fusion of Chinese and Western elements in that cultural era.

In conclusion, the exchange gave me a chance to broaden my horizons on rare eye pathology, diagnosis, and the medical system in China. With this valuable experience, I believe I can apply these insights to refine my clinical practice and approach complex cases with a broader perspective.
