Global Connection

We are pleased to announce that a delegation of our colleagues and research students recently participated in the 25th Asia Pacific Optometric Congress (APOC), held in Jeju, Republic of Korea. The event provided an excellent platform for academic exchange and professional engagement with the international optometry community.

The Congress was particularly significant for our School, as two faculty members received prestigious recognition in honour of their outstanding contributions to optometry and vision science.

Prof. To Chi-ho, Visiting Chair Professor of Experimental Optometry, was invited to serve as the KB Woo Memorial Lecturer. In his lecture, entitled “Myopia Control and Optical Defocus – From Laboratory Research to Clinical Study,” Prof. To presented his pioneering work in translating fundamental vision science research into clinical application.

Prof. Carly Lam, Adjunct Professor, was conferred the “Distinguished Person Members” Award by APCO. This distinguished honour recognizes her exceptional professional achievements and her longstanding international contributions to the advancement of optometry.

In addition to these notable achievements, members of our delegation shared their latest research with the global optometry community through mini-lectures and poster presentations. Highlights included: Prof. Jeffrey Leung, Assistant Professor, delivered a presentation on developmental dyslexia, highlighting how optometric management may support individuals affected by the condition. Dr Ken Wan, Assistant Professor of Practice, presented his research on orthokeratology (Ortho-K) lenses, focusing on how a modified axial edge lift design may improve both comfort and lens centration. Mr Kenny Lau, Optometrist, showcased a poster on sports vision, examining how visuomotor reactions may distinguish athletic performance.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Prof. To and Prof. Lam on these well-deserved honours. Their achievements reflect their dedication, leadership, and continued commitment to advancing optometry and vision science. We are equally proud of our colleagues and research students for their active participation and valuable contributions at APOC, which further demonstrate our commitment to excellence in research, education, and professional service.
