On 14 March 2026, the School of Optometry at PolyU once again joined hands with The Hong Kong Society of Professional Optometrists (HKSPO) and The Hong Kong Association of Private Practice Optometrists (APPO) to support the Special Olympics Hong Kong “Healthy Athletes” Programme. This year’s vision screening was held at The CCC Mongkok Church Kai Oi School.
A dedicated team of 28 staff and students from the School of Optometry, together with 5 volunteer optometrists from HKSPO and APPO, provided vision tests, prescription checks, and ocular health assessments for 85 Special Olympics athletes. Glasses and sunglasses were prescribed and dispensed to athletes in need.
Since 2001, the School of Optometry at PolyU has been committed to supporting the Healthy Athletes Programme annually, collaborating with healthcare professionals to improve the health and sporting experience of Special Olympics athletes. Through these screenings, valuable data on athletes’ eye health and needs are collected, analyzed, and published, contributing to ongoing improvements in their well-being.
