Faculty of Applied Sciences and Textiles

We are accredited by AACSB (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) and EQUIS (EFMD Quality Improvement System). Our research has been ranked 59th in the world (The UTD Top 100 Worldwide Business School Rankings based on Research Contributions 2010-2014).
Our community consists of 200 academics from around the world, 5,000 students and 39,000 alumni. We are dedicated to the pursuit of IDEAS (Innovation-driven Education and Scholarship) with a 3D focus on discovery, design and delivery. Our BBA scheme has seven awards widely recognized by professional bodies in the fields of accounting, finance, logistics, management and marketing.
Faculty of Construction and Environment
We have been internationally recognised for our academic strengths and are accredited by local and international professional institutions. We’re 11th globally for Civil and Structural Engineering and 12th for Architecture and Built Environment (QS World University Rankings by subject, 2015).
Our programmes are designed by benchmarking against the best international practices which include fields related to construction, the environment, sustainable urban development and spatial information. Our extensive international and industry networks open up valuable opportunities for our students to embark on exchanges, collaborations and consultancy activities.
Faculty of Engineering
Engineering is one of the founding disciplines of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, building on a tradition of engineering excellence for nearly 80 years. Over the decades, the Faculty of Engineering remains committed to its mission of enhancing the well-being of the community by serving industries and the educational needs of students.
PolyU is ranked 9th by the U.S. News and World Report in the subject of Engineering under the Best Global Universities Rankings 2015.
We have over 6,900 students pursuing their studies in a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The majority of our engineering undergraduate programmes are accredited by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, a signatory under the Washington Accord. This accreditation is internationally recognized by countries such as the UK, Australia, the US, Malaysia, Canada, etc.
Faculty of Humanities
We are one of Asia’s leading educators in the fields of applied language sciences, intercultural communication and Chinese culture studies. We are also rapidly advancing in speech therapy and healthcare communication.
Our programmes equip students with the knowledge and practical application abilities essential in a wide range of professions. We design our programmes to meet the requirements of a knowledge-based and technology-intensive society, to prepare our students for their careers as well as empower them to make a meaningful contribution to the global community.
Faculty of Health and Social Sciences
We monitor, respond to and predict trends in health and society, creating programmes that change and adapt to knowledge, society and the workplace. We equip our students with the best practice and theory they need to contribute positively to society’s wellbeing.
Fieldwork and clinical training is fundamental to our teaching and helps develop the practical and interpersonal skills required by real work environments. We have our own research centres and clinics on campus, and have extensive and productive relationships with health care providers and medical, social welfare and human services organisations where students can gain valuable hands-on experience. We’re the leading provider of specialists in Hong Kong, and our academic staff actively engage in cutting-edge research and scholarly activities to advance the quality of teaching and knowledge.
School of Design
PolyU Design has been an important and dynamic hub for design education and research in Hong Kong since 1964. Our long-standing heritage and dedication to innovative, flexible programmes has helped us achieve our position as the top-ranked design school in Asia and 24th globally in the area of art and design (QS World University Rankings by subject, 2015).
Our school, which provides a high level, well-equipped teaching and learning environment, is located in a landmark building on the PolyU campus, Jockey Club Innovation Tower, a building designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid.
School of Hotel and Tourism Management
We are ranked 2nd in the world for academic institutions teaching hospitality and tourism based on research and scholarship (Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research 2009). We offer a strong academic foundation supported by hands-on, practical learning with quality programmes that have been recognised internationally.
We’re one of the first institutions to receive the United Nations World Tourism Organisation’s (UNWTO) TedQual Certification. We’re recognised by the International Society for Travel and Tourism Educators with an ISTTE Institutional Achievement Award for innovation, curriculum design, industry partnerships and enhancing tourism education in Asia.
The faculty has more than 2,100 students enrolled with 65 international academics from 20 countries and regions. We have our own purpose-built teaching and research 5 star hotel, Hotel ICON, where students can practice their skills first-hand, developing a strong sense of international standards, best practices and theory.
