Summer@OxBridge

This programme aims to encourage students to attend one of the below programmes hosted by University of Cambridge and University of Oxford.

  • All full-time PolyU undergraduate students in UGC-funded programmes, except final-year students, in any faculty/school are welcome.
  • Students who have been on international student exchange programme are also eligible to apply but priority will be given to students who have not participated in international exchange programmes.
  • Students who expect to receive a summer exchange offer in the same year should not apply.

Subsidies

Eligibility

  • Min. CGPA 3.50 as of Semester 1, 2021/22.
  • Successful applicant to one of the OxBridge programmes with application confirmation issued by Cambridge or Oxford.
  • Submitted complete application for the Subsidy by deadline.

Subsidy Arrangement under Pandemic

  • Subsidy amount is calculated based on the condition that the OxBridge programmes are held offline and physical travel is required. Subsidy amount shall be adjusted if there is a change in mode of teaching and/or change in programme fees. In case of a downward adjustment of the Subsidy, extra-paid amount will be clawed back.
  • In case of cancellation of the OxBridge programme, the Subsidy shall be clawed back.
  • If the University decided to suspend outbound exchange/activities in Summer Term, 2021-22 that involves physical travel, GEO will inform such University decision to the programme organizers. PolyU students should apply for refund on their own according to programmes’ terms and conditions.

Allocation

  • Allocation of the Subsidy will be based on latest CGPA (as of Semester 1, 2021/22) and personal statement.
  • Approved Subsidy will be transferred to student's bank account as per record of Student Account Enquiry of PolyU Finance Office.
  • The Subsidy will be clawed back if student fail to complete the programme and transfer credit(s) back to PolyU.

 

Subsidy Application Period: 20 January 2022 (09:00 HK time) to 20 February 2022 (23:59 HK time)

  1. Apply online for one of the Summer@OxBridge programmes by submitting complete application to the programme provider directly. Save a proof on COMPLETED application (not admission) in PDF format.
  2. Complete the Online Application for Summer@OxBridge Subsidy.
  3. Supporting documents required:

    a. A proof on COMPLETED application (not admission) in PDF format from one of the OxBridge programmes; and

    b. Copy of PolyU Student ID Card;

                      c. Personal statement (400 words)

3 courses chosen from the list of over 30 courses. 1 of the 3 courses can be Independent Supervisions.

A non-refundable fee to cover the administration cost of processing applications.

Tuition fee – £4,518

Covers Teaching & Learning, and College-based support:

  • Academic and pastoral support from the Academic Director and/or IP Director through daily drop-in advisory hours.
  • Comprehensive feedback on performance through mid-term essays or alternative assessment.
  • Access to the libraries at Pembroke College and the Engineering Department.
  • Plenary lectures, Social Sciences and Sciences study skills sessions, Field trips and/or guest speakers on relevant courses.
  • IT support, 24/7 access to computer facilities and Wi-Fi, 24/7 pastoral and welfare support, on-site medical support.

(Optional) Independent Supervision supplement – £1,166

The opportunity to undertake an individual research project in place of one of the 3 lecture courses, fee includes:

  • 1-to-1 academic supervision from an expert in your chosen field.
  • Comprehensive feedback on your project work, Assessment of written work.
  • Access to the Cambridge University library.

Accommodation:

Accommodation fee ranges from £2,000 to £2,750 depending on room type. Meal plan, 2 Formal Halls (formal dinners) are included.

Business Summer Programme or Economics Summer Programme 26 June – 23 July 2022

Engineering Summer Programme 17 July – 13 August 2022

Duration: 4 weeks
Courses:

Business programme

1 course comprising four modules on Business Finance, Business Leadership, Business Strategy and Responsible Investing.

Economics programme

1 course comprising three parts on Macroeconomics and its Economic, Political and Social Factors, the Nobel Prize Winners and Distributional Macroeconomics.

Engineering programme
1 course comprising three modules covering the Jet Engine, Quantum Technologies and Nanotechnology.

Programme Fee:

£4,050 covering:

  • The academic course (minimum of 45 hours of contact time on the Economics and Engineering programmes, and a minimum of 60 hours of contact time on the Business programme), a series of evening talks.
  • Accommodation (single occupancy study bedroom) and meal plan.
  • Formal dinners, English afternoon tea, social programme (past activities have included punting and museum visits), access to College facilities.
  • Day trips to London and Oxford.

  • Academic support, study skills seminars and drop-in study skills workshops.
  • 24/7 pastoral and welfare support, 24/7 access to the Exeter College Library.
  • A series of evening lectures.

  • Single occupancy, en-suite accommodation with meal plan, 24/7 WIFI access and dedicated IT support.
  • Formal Dinners, social and extra-curricular activities, arrival day reception, orientation and Welcome Buffet.
  • Day-trip to London including a performance at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.
